It's been years since I've been able to submit a piece to the annual Fire Mountain Gems beading contest, but I was bound and determined this year! Got this piece finished, photographed, and submitted last night with just minutes to spare.

What's on my beads tray today! With two little boys with tons of energy, I've largely shelved my beads for the past couple years. After all, a sudden leap onto my lap while beading could result in a huge mess. But this year, it feels like we've turned a corner and I can pull my beads out again. Granted, I'm mostly beading in waiting rooms - during a mandatory wait period of 30 minutes after my weekly allergy shots, and while my oldest has swim therapy.

My progress is slow, but I've made a few goals of contests and exhibits I want to enter this year. So here is my first big piece in a long, long time, a freeform necklace that is alllllllmost finished!

I entered "Broad-Tailed Hummingbird" into this year's Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta, which was last weekend. When I went to pick it up today, it had this shiny purple "Viewer's Choice" ribbon with it, and a note saying, "Very nice piece, beautifully executed. One judge questioned wearability and choice of white in middle. VIEWER CHOICE!! What do judges know?"

For the second month in a row, I managed to finish up a piece in time for the Etsy Beadweaver's monthly challenge!

This month's theme is "Warmth," so I lit a fire. I'll let ya'll know when the voting starts on the blog.

Flames of yellow, orange, and red lap up on both sides of the red-hot coal center in this OOAK (one-of-a-kind) cuff. The flames gradually decrease in size

Between life and work, I don't have as much time these days to get new pieces completed! But I did manage to get this necklace together in time for the Etsy Beadweavers January 2014 Challenge. The theme this month is "Rising Star," and rather than defining what theme the pieces should follow, this theme defines *who* can enter - those of us members of the team who have not won a challenge in the past 3 years. I'll post a link to the blog for the public vote once it begins!

Silvery gray and pale purple seed beads are used together with purple Swarovski crystal pearls to create a series of beadwoved flowers in wintry tones. The
