Leather cap of the Armored Troops (ABTV), model 1923, according to TU 1930

Crew members of armored vehicles were given a leather cap as a headdress, the description of which was first announced by order of the RVSR No. 1936 in 1923. The cap was made from leather of the same grade and quality as the leather jacket with trousers. The crown was cut out from four equal-sized pieces of leather. A round bottom was sewn to it on top, and a band at the bottom. Cardboard was laid under the band. At the front, a visor made of leather cardboard covered with leather on both sides was sewn to the band. The cap was lined with lining canvas or calico, and a leather or leatherette undercoat was sewn to the lower edge of the band on the inside. A leather chin strap was fastened to the front of the band with two buttons. A Red Army badge-cockade was attached in the middle of the band under the front seam of the crown.

The description of a leather cap for motorized mechanized troops was confirmed by the All-Union Standard OST 2193 of August 31, 1930.

The main material is genuine goat leather, black.

Shortened padded sharovary trousers of enlisted ranks of the Russian Imperial Army, Model 1915.

Based on the experience of the Manchurian campaign of 1904–1905, during which Russian troops widely used local Chinese quilted cotton clothing, the Main Quartermaster Directorate of the Russian Imperial Army conducted experiments in 1913 to replace sheepskin coats, worn under greatcoats, with quilted cotton vests and trousers. In 1914, the vests were replaced with jackets with sleeves.

In 1915, the Main Quartermaster Directorate standardized the quilted clothing supplied to troops for winter use. The set consisted of a jacket and shortened trousers. The jacket was made of field-tent canvas dyed in a protective color and lined with calico with a layer of cotton wadding.

The shortened quilted trousers were made of cotton fabric (rep or diagonal weave), also dyed in a protective color, and lined with calico with a layer of cotton wadding. Only two trouser sizes existed: large and small.

Summer, marching cap, wartime, lower ranks of the Russian Imperial Army. 1915.

During the First World War, the Russian Imperial Army experienced an acute shortage of cloth for the production of uniforms. Therefore, already in August 1914, the Technical Committee of the Main Quartermaster Directorate began to introduce simplifications both in the sewing of new uniforms for mobilized troops and in the quality of the materials used for this. One of these simplifications was the rejection of leather or leatherette under-caps and their replacement with canvas on the caps of lower ranks. The next step was permission to make caps from cotton fabrics, moleskin or tarpaulin, since in the winter they were replaced by papakhas.

Quilted Jacket (Telogreika) of Enlisted Ranks of the Russian Imperial Army, Model 1915

Based on the experience of the Manchurian Campaign of 1904–1905, during which Russian troops widely used local Chinese quilted padded clothing, the Main Intendant Directorate of the Russian Imperial Army in 1913 conducted trials to replace sheepskin coats worn under greatcoats with quilted, padded sleeveless vests and trousers. In 1914, the sleeveless vests were replaced with jackets with sleeves.

In 1915, the Main Intendant Directorate standardized padded clothing supplied to the troops for winter use. It consisted of a set comprising a jacket and shortened sharovary trousers. The jacket was made of tent canvas dyed in a protective color and lined with calico (coarse cotton) with a layer of cotton wadding inside. Unlike padded jackets of later periods, fastening was done with ties, although examples with button fastenings and hand-made slit buttonholes are also known. Another significant difference between the Model 1915 padded jacket and those later adopted by the Red Army (from 1946 — the Soviet Army) was that through quilting was present on the back and sleeves, while in the skirts only the wadding and lining were quilted. Otherwise, the design of the padded jacket did not undergo significant changes until the end of the 20th century.
