The other is between 20 and 40.
Find ALL possible pairs!

We listed every multiple of 4 in each range:
🔹 Between 10–20: 12, 16
🔹 Between 20–40: 24, 28, 32, 36

Then tested EVERY combination:
➡️ (12, 28) = HCF 4 ✅
➡️ (12, 32) = HCF 4 ✅
➡️ (16, 28) = HCF 4 ✅

📐 IGCSE 0580 Year 10 | Similar Shapes — Past Paper Prep
Understanding Scale Factors: Length, Area & Volume 📚✨
In today’s Year 10 IGCSE session, we worked on a past-paper question involving mathematically similar containers.
The key idea was to understand that when two shapes are similar, their lengths, areas and volumes increase at different rates.
🔹 Length changes by the scale factor.
🔹 Surface area changes by the square of the scale factor.
🔹 Volume changes by the cube of the scale factor.
🧠 Step-by-step thinking
First, we used the two volumes to find the linear scale factor.
Once the scale factor was found, we squared it because the question asked for surface area.
Finally, we multiplied the larger container’s surface area by the area scale factor to find the surface area of the smaller container.
✅ Final answer: 0.55 m²
This is an important IGCSE skill: don't just memorise formulas — understand why the scale factor changes from k to k square to k cube.
