Family:Penaeidae
Genus:Litopenaeus
Species: L. vannamei
The vannamei shrimp, scientifically known as Litopenaeus vannamei, was discovered and named by Louise Boone in 1931. The species is native to the tropical East Pacific, from the Gulf of California to northern Peru. Litopenaeus vannamei, commonly known as the whiteleg shrimp or Pacific white shrimp, is a popular aquaculture species with characteristics like a translucent, bluish or olive color, a moderately long rostrum with teeth, and a maximum length of 230 mm.
MORPHOLOGY:
a streamlined body, a fused head and thorax (cephalothorax) covered by a carapace, and appendages like chelipeds and pereiopods for walking and swimming.
Body Structure:
Cephalothorax:
The head and thorax are fused, forming the cephalothorax, which is covered by a hard, protective shell called the carapace.
Abdomen:
The body or abdomen has six segments, with the first five segments bearing swimming legs (pleopods).
Tail:
The last segment consists of a fan-like tail, formed by uropods and a telson, which helps with swimming and balance.
Appendages:
Antennae: A pair of antennae are present for sensing the environment.
Eyes: They have a pair of compound eyes.
Mandibles: They have mandibles (jaws) for feeding.
Maxillipeds: They have maxillipeds (auxiliary jaws).
Pereiopods: Five pairs of walking legs (pereiopods) are present on the head.
Chelipeds: They have chelipeds (claws).
Pleopods: Five pairs of swimming legs (pleopods) are found on the abdomen.
Other Features:
Rostrum:
The rostrum is moderately long, with teeth on the dorsal and ventral sides.
Color:
They are translucent, bluish, or olive colored with dusky bands, with reddish-brown antennules and white legs.
Size:
L. vannamei can grow to a maximum length of 230 mm (9.1 in), with a carapace length of 90 mm (3.5 in).
Habitat:
Adults live in the ocean, while juveniles live in estuaries.
Over view:
Litopenaeus vannamei (whiteleg shrimp) aquaculture is a significant global industry, with farmers focusing on improving growth, survival, and disease resistance through practices like probiotic use and optimizing water quality. The best advantage of this specie is it can survive from high range of salanity to low range of salanity about 2 to 3 (ppt) minimum by Acclimatize method the process of gradually adjusting the shrimp to new environmental conditions, such as temperature or salinity, to minimize stress and ensure survival artificially means we can culture it any where without any problem of either we have sea or fresh water we can culture it in fresh or boring water by using the water treatments, use of probiotics as primary food, essential chemical and minerals etc if we do it scientifically we can achieve a very good growth rate and survival.
FINAL CONCLUSION:
WHY WE NEED TO DO AQUACULTURE SHRIMP FARMING??
Shrimp farming aquaculture is needed to address global food security, economic development in coastal communities, and to meet the growing demand for seafood, while also exploring sustainable practices to minimize environmental impacts. Growing Demand:The world's population is increasing, and so is the demand for seafood, with shrimp being a popular and valuable protein source Shrimp farming (aquaculture) can help meet this growing demand by providing a reliable and sustainable source of shrimp, reducing the pressure on wild shrimp populations.
Thanks for taking the overview of my post guys I hope u guys can get information and some benefits regarding shrimp farming and its importance and benefits. I'm going to describe that nowadays shrimp farming is a future of world protein and sea food because as the population of the world increases the demand for shrimp protein also increases. if we understand the complete cycle of sustainable shrimp farming aquaculture and it's management we can earn a billions of profit from this industry because it is an export product and sold in dollars in the international markets it plays a very significant role in the blue economy of any nation of country.
Thanks:
