SIN cannot be erased or paid by penitence (hurting ourselves), good works, or sacrifice.
JESUS PAID for our sins by dying on the cross.

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

Why do people still do the penitence of hurting themselves?
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8 KJV)
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. (Hebrews 10:6 KJV)
TRUE PENITENCE
ADMIT that you are a sinner

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
You are bound to HELL
(Revelation 21:8 KJV)
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
BELIEVE that JESUS died for you and your sins, buried and rose again (1 Cor. 15 1-4)
Read the Bible and find a Bible Believing Church.
Obey God's words, and live for Christ.
Behold, to obey (the words of God) is better than sacrifice (Penitence). (1 Samuel 15:22 KJV)
