It all started as a hobby...
Al has always been passionate about crafts. She had been buying local materials and crafting them into handmade bags, jewelry, and furniture. Her children will surely describe to you their house full of random creations.
The past three months paved the way for Al to re-channel her energy into creating alternative means to protect ourselves. It started with teaching her children to sew their own cloth masks (since surgical masks are expensive and priority should be given to frontliners and high risk communities) then they came up with the idea to reach more people by launching this page. Her love for local fabric and for her children to be more aware on safety intertwined and formed Habing Lok-al.
The masks they have created may cost a little bit more than other cloth masks since the materials are locally sourced, made and are not mass produced. Logistics are also a challenge as commute in their hometown are still not present. Despite this, Al and her family continue to reach out to as many as they can and provide alternative homemade masks.
(Masks shown above are not actual products, they were sewn by Al’s 10-year old son -- who is currently at home and learning life skills from his mom
