Gold prices soared to a new all-time high above $4,100 per ounce on Tuesday, fueled by expectations of a possible U.S. Federal Reserve rate cut and renewed trade tensions between the United States and China.

Gold climbed 0.6% to $4,132.89 an ounce by 9:50 a.m. GMT, after touching a record $4,179.48 earlier in the day.

It has surged 57% since the start of the year, boosted by geopolitical uncertainties, central bank buying, and strong investor inflows.

Analysts say the rally past the $4,100 mark reflects safe-haven demand amid global trade concerns.

Market watchers now eye potential signals from the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting, with projections from Bank of America and Société Générale suggesting gold could hit $5,000 per ounce by 2026.

Meanwhile, silver retreated 2.5% to $51.01 after briefly reaching a record $53.60. | via Reuters
