On October 20, 1783 it was sent by King Charles III of Spain on a mission to bring much-needed hard currency to the Spanish colony of Louisiana. The ship sailed to Veracruz, Mexico, where it was loa

ded with approximately 450,000 Spanish Silver pesos (reales). On January 11, 1784, it sailed for New Orleans, and was never heard from again. The loss of these coins triggered the rapid expansion of the newly formed USA. The loss forced Spain to sell the Louisianan Territory to the French, who later sold it to the Americans- thus doubling the size of the fledgling USA and triggering western expansion. Every coin tells a story…but perhaps no coin in history tells a more riveting tale than the coins of El Cazador, the Spanish Galleon shipwreck that changed the world. Each coin has a Certificate of Authenticity; No two coins are alike because each one has been uniquely shaped by the natural erosion of the sea during the past 220 years at a depth of over 300 ft.
