21st Century Kiwi Flag This page is to support a great new flag for New Zealand that is modern, simple and representative of both tradition and our future. It is time .....

I based my new NZ flag on the following criteria:


Keep the original colours

A stylised fern whose inspiration is a series time lapse shots of Team NZ's mainsail reflected in the perfect blue waters of the Waitemata Habour ( with apologies to TV3's logo)
Could also represent a time lapse of an Air NZ plane's tail turning in for final approach bringing returning Kiwi's home and visiting tourist

s to GodZone. The Southern Alps reflected in the perfect blue of the Tasman sea. or the back bone of 'Te Ika a Maui' - Maui's giant fish that he pulled up from the sea - forming the North Island. Keeps the Crux / Southern Cross as it is now, on the existing flag as we all used this at some time or other to navigate our way here to what is now our homeland. It should be modern, stylish and instantly recognizable like the Canadian flag

and for all those war veterans who will say we fought under the Blue Ensign so we can't change it! Keep the 4 stars of the Crux which is what all the badges on the uniforms had on them .... and also the silver fern which is on all our boys headstones that died in both wars overseas. This was the argument the Canadian government used in 65' for the veterans as the Canadian uniform had buttons with the maple leaf on them. Would have been great to see this version of a new modern Kiwi flag flying at the Olympics …. But sadly not to be … but top 75 designs was not bad …
