My first time Dutch Design Week | DDW - here are a few of the many things I loved. My longest conversation was with a guy who makes furniture and other interior items from human hair. I said the PR must be a nightmare. He doesn’t believe people necessarily need to in what their things are made of. It was an education. He invited me to sit on his human hair chair. Also a quick visit to the DAF Museum Eindhoven in beautiful - highly recommended.

After an enforced six week holiday, I finally got to continue with my swimming lessons last night. Went with a heavy heart because I now know I have to give up on my dream to do my exams and obtain my diploma before the end of the year. Also, we jumped right into the hardest part of the course, freestyle (borstcrawl) and backstroke where technique matters a lot more than strength. Last time I was here I had to be told repeatedly during frog kicks: “Anesca! Toes!”He means I have to point my toes outwards before kicking. So last night while my instructor, who is from Afghanistan, is watching me and about to say something, I said: Yes, I know, toes.” But then he said: “Actually, I came to say you’re doing so excellent.” And you know it’s mos everything when you get a gold star from the teacher.☺️

First time customers ever from Korea and they went a bit nutters for the jewelry which gladdened my heart. Also first time buyers from Iceland, Senegal, Shanghai and Saint Martin. It’s crazy to me that our humble South African products are being worn in all these countries I’ve never even been to. Thank you to everyone who lives in The Hague or visited The Hague and who bought from us or even just listened to my long stories. All of my customers were really sweet and lovely and also a huge thank you to my regular customers.

I registered my business some time before that but did a lot of dilly dallying 🤡. The past five has however has been a steep@ learning curve in walking the tight rope between idealism and the bottom line. It took me a long time to learn lean business principles without losing my love for the job.
