Over the Easter weekend, we went to the Nairobi Arboretum 🌿 with my cousin Sandy — not just to enjoy the serenity, but also for a fun photo shoot 📸. It turned out to be such a beautiful afternoon filled with laughter, nature, and sweet memories. I’ve shared some of the photos here — swipe through to see the magic! ✨
As soon as we walked in (after paying just 60 bob for adults and 40 for kids 🎟️), we were greeted by a world of tall trees, singing birds, and playful monkeys 🐒. The place was alive with people — families having picnics under the shade 🧺, young groups dancing 💃🏽🕺🏽, joggers and walkers weaving through the forest trails 🏃🏾♂️, and even pet lovers strolling with their dogs 🐕. We even met a lovely Chinese woman who had the most adorable one-year-old German shepherd!
🌿 Fun fact: The Nairobi Arboretum was planted in 1907 by colonial foresters experimenting with exotic trees for Kenya’s highlands. Over 100 years later, it’s now home to more than 350 tree and bird species — a true urban sanctuary. And it’s right next to State House and Radisson Blu Hotel 🏛️🏨.
There are small shops just outside the gate selling snacks, drinks, and curios 🍟🧃🛍️ — perfect for a quick bite before or after. If you plan on doing a proper photo shoot or carrying a camera, there’s an extra fee of about 1,300 bob, but it’s so worth it. The lighting, the trees, the energy... it all comes together so beautifully.
So if you’re a parent (or just a lover of peaceful spots), and you're looking for a place where your kids can run free, see monkeys up close, and enjoy nature — the Arboretum is perfect 👨👩👧👦💚. I didn’t want to leave, and Sandy’s already thinking of planning her birthday here. Honestly? Same! 🌳📷✨
