Working directly with small, family run factories and suppliers, every item is made to order according to you. Gorgeous silks, silver jewelry, Tibetan yak-wool blankets, sequinned bags, silk dresses, colourful harem pants... The markets in India are a shopping paradise, and everything is super-cheap, so here I am offering to do your shopping for you! Just let me know what you want, I'll go out and

take some pictures to make sure you're getting exactly what you want, will haggle my hardest to get you a good price (I am a pro, I promise!), then post your parcel to your house. It costs about a tenner to post a kilo back to the uk, so bear that in mind when ordering. Bulk-buying makes everything loads cheaper and subsequent kilos are cheaper than the first to post, so maybe get a list going with your friends!

Sari mission complete!!!
128 cotton saris in the most incredible colours and patterns, all bought from street sellers on the side of the road in Kolkata.
Next step is to go through them and decide which to stitch into kantha blankets and which to keep to make into floaty clothes for my little shop in Goa.
Then back to Santinikaten to the ladies in the villages for their wonderful stitching work, then before heading back to Pushkar to the tailors to turn them into beautiful clothes! I'm going to struggle not to keep everything for myself.

Cool, comfortable and classically bohemian, gorgeous natural cottons, flattering cuts.
The beautiful selection of prints I've found here are unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. A lot of the items in the market are a bit too 'Indian' for the average western wardrobe, but i did find these pieces which i think are lovely and can be worn anywhere.
Adjustable waist tunic (i love this one and bought one which wassupposed to be a sample but I kept it for myself and it's my favourite thing to wear in the humid Kolkata heatwave. Available up to 50 inch chest).
Palazzos (one size, they have an elasticated waist and a drawstring at the side).
V-neck dress (lovely!)
Kurti (sized, but with adjustable ties at the chest to pull in to fit, with slits up the sides, normally worn as part of a salwar set but equally nice over jeans or leggings)
Men's short sleeve shirts (sized from 38-50 inch chest, loads of beautiful prints available)
Long skirt (not the best pic but I'm wearing one now and they're so comfy and great for hot weather!).

Today has been the most awful day. My beautiful little cat Squeak was killed by a dog this morning, I am absolutely heartbroken and I can't stop crying.
Sorry if you've been trying to message me and haven't got anything back.
I'll try to get back on top of things tomorrow.

If you need anything from the artisans in Santinikaten, let me know ASAP because today is my last day here for a little while, I'll be going back in Kolkata for a few days tomorrow night before heading up to Darjeeling to escape the heat and see what treasures I can uncover there. Here is a closer look at the kantha stitched silk patchwork stoles. Look at the colours!! They're double sided; one side is patchwork and the other is made from one print. These are made from 100% silk recycled sari and hand stitched by the ladies in the villages around the area.
