Laois Watch Works is evolving into a two-part watchmaking business built around craftsmanship, reliability, and individuality.

At its core, Laois Watch Works will continue to focus on professional watch repair services, restoration work, and the supply of quality watch components and parts for enthusiasts, modders, and collectors alike. Built on a passion for horology and precision, it remains the technical and service-driven side of the business.

Alongside this, Slieve Watches is being launched as the creative microbrand division — dedicated to building, modding, and customising unique timepieces. Inspired by individuality and modern watch culture, Slieve Watches will offer bespoke builds, carefully curated modifications, and original designs that blend personality, craftsmanship, and everyday wearability.

Together, the two brands represent both sides of modern watchmaking: trusted technical expertise through Laois Watch Works, and creative expression through Slieve Watches.

What Goes Into a Custom Watch Build?

This image shows the core components used when building your own custom watch — the method most builders start with, and for good reason.

The process begins with a completed, ready-assembled automatic movement. Using a fully built movement saves a huge amount of time and removes the complexity of assembling hundreds of microscopic parts from scratch, while still delivering reliability and accuracy.

From there, the build comes together by carefully selecting and fitting:

A suitable watch case

A matching dial

Hands to suit the style and function

A bezel and crystal for protection and character

A case back to seal everything securely

And finally, pairing it all with the right strap or bracelet to complete the look

This approach is by far the easiest and most popular way to build a custom watch. It allows you to focus on design, fit, and finishing, while relying on a proven movement at the heart of the watch.

Every watch has a story ⌚

Laois Watch Works started with a simple battery change and slowly turned into a full-on obsession with watches. These days I spend my time repairing, refurbishing, building, and designing watches (including custom designs done in CAD).

This is a home-based setup in County Laois, Ireland, driven purely by a love for timepieces — especially the ones with a bit of history behind them.

This page will be used to share projects, restorations, builds, and the odd interesting find along the way.
If you’re a collector, enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates a good watch, you’re very welcome here.
