Want to enjoy nature and delicious food? We highly recommend one of our favorite places: Dana and Janko’s rural cottage on Crepoljsko (on the Sarajevo Ozren mountain).

You can get here by car and then walk for 20 to 30 minutes, or if you have a 4x4, you can drive all the way to the cottage. You can also hike from Čavljak (approximately an hour and a half), or from the Skakavac waterfall via Bukovik or via the Lučica waterfall. So many options! :)

Some places lose that special touch as the people who run them get tired… but not Dana and Janko, as they truly love doing this. Dana loves cooking for people and she is really good at it 🤤🤩. Janko is the same good soul as his mother.

Before Dado and I met, he used to come here by bike with his friends, and Dana’s husband would call them “jajare” (“jaje” means egg) because they would arrive tired and hungry and always eat a lot of eggs! 🤣

People often ask us which brand we trust for hiking. Even before we met, we were both buying Alpina boots, a high-quality regional brand from Slovenia.

They are incredibly affordable compared to other pro brands, especially with seasonal discounts or if you’re part of a mountaineering association or guide society.

Here’s a breakdown of our favorite models:

🥾 Madeira 2.0 (Hiking Sneakers)

My latest addition. I tested these on a mix of forest dirt, gravel, and rocky scree trails, and the grip is amazing. They are so lightweight and breathable it feels like you’re wearing nothing! Not waterproof, but perfect for hot summer days.

🥾 Nepal Lady

My all-time favorites. ❤️ As a professional guide, safety and grip are everything to me, especially since I love running down zig-zag gravel and scree trails. They’re a bit heavier, but as a winter boot, they’re unbeatable: waterproof, Vibram sole, super comfortable, and great ankle protection.

🥾 Nuptse (Dado’s choice)

He’s on his third pair! These are his go-to winter boots. They’re slightly taller than regular boots, providing better snow protection and ankle support. They are waterproof, have incredible grip, and are compatible with crampons.

🥾 Prima Mid

I wanted something lighter than the Nepal Lady for year-round use. They’re waterproof and comfortable with good ankle support. However, for demanding winter hikes or slippery terrain where I need crampons, I still stick with my Nepal Ladies.

Disclaimer: This isn’t a paid promotion, just our honest experience. We hope this helps you choose your next pair! ⛰️

Feel free to ask us anything about these models in the comments! 👇

Hike to the highest peak of the Olympus mountain - Mytikas (Μύτικας) 2.917 m/asl.
🇬🇷⛰️

(For the first section of a hike read previous post)

After a short rest we scramble for 30/40 minutes across very difficult terrain to finally reach Mytikas peak. Even though it was surrounded with clouds, we had a few seconds to see nearby peaks and sea.

I was surprised how many people do this very demanding hike in sneakers for town, yes you read it right SNEAKERS, without any grip and worn out. Please don't make this huge mistake that can cost you life!

When done in one day this is a very exhausting hike due to altitude difference of 1800 m/asl and lenght of 18,2 km in total. We started hike at 5:30 am and returned back to Prionia at 7:30 pm. (11 hours and 30 minutes of walking time without brake).

Next time I would definitely book a overnight in the hut, come in afnternoin and enjoy in nice Greek wine or beer and watch sunset. I would hike a 3-4 hour route to the Mytikas in the early morning and enjoy in the peak without crowd and maybe no clouds.

Litochoro, a small charming town situated in the foothills of Mountain Olympus. 🇬🇷
It is tucked between the Aegean Sea and home of Greek Gods and throne of Zeus.

The majority of the town is uphill and you can enjoy looking over the sea or Olympus mountain.

It's perfect place if you would like a vacation that is combination of hiking and swimming in the sea.

Old Bazaar in Skopje 😍

When visting Skopje don't miss this charming place situated in the heart of Skopje town.

It reminds me on the old bazaar in my home town Sarajevo and as well in Mostar bazaar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As we were very hungry, while strolling through the bazaar we saw a very interesting corner full of restaurants under the tree and with fountain in the middle. Our attention caught a small restaurant called Merkez. We ordered kebab, as we in Sarajevo call it ćevap and sausages, which I thought they would be sudzukice (very tin sausages) but they were actually kobasice (thick susages). But overall everything was VERY delicious and I really liked it was a family owned small restaurants. You could see kids helping his dad and grandad and they were all very kind and friendly. One kid even went to the store when I asked for mustard and they didn't have it.
