A List of Ibrahim Traore's Achievements :
Here is a list of Ibrahim Traore's achievements. He has achieved a lot in a very short time and there is so much going on in terms of development. This list is not exhaustive, it's what I was able to remember. And as my time permits, I will be making detailed posts about each one on the list. Here is the list in no particular order :
๐ 55 Medical centers are being built in all rural areas
๐ Polytechnic University (under construction)
๐ SONHABY: the state company distributing fuel in Burkina. Its storage capacity has been significantly increased by building new facilities
๐ Scholarships for Nuclear Science: Traorรฉ negotiated and obtained with Russia a scholarship program for Burkina students to study nuclear science in Russia as Burkina is building its first nuclear power plant. The program is starting the coming academic year
๐ Banque Postal du Burkina Faso - BPBF (a government owned bank to finance small businesses)
๐ Cashew Processing Plant
๐ Cotton Processing Plant
๐ Thomas Sankara Mausoleum (to be inaugurated on May 17, 2025)
๐ A state of the art mobile clinic for the army
๐ Cement Factory (a PPP project)
๐ Two Data Centers (under construction). This in the IT field for those who don't know what a Data Center is.
๐ A dam (under construction)
๐ Air Burkina: Traorรฉ bought a new airplane and revived the company
๐ Gold Reserve: Burkina never had gold reserve. Now it does
๐ SOFATO Tomato Processing Factory
๐ SOBTO Tomato Processing Factory
๐ Tenkodogo tomato processing factory (under construction)
๐ Traore paid off local debts (the last batch was paid end of March 2025)
๐ Burkina GDP increased. In 2023 it recorded 20.32 billion USD. That is up from 18.82 in 2022 the year he took power. And in 2024 it was 21.86 billion USD. The three previous years before Traore the GDP was 16.03 billion USD, 17.73 billion USD and 19.64 USD for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively.
๐ Export of Raw Gold banned
๐ School Uniform: All school uniforms are from a locally made fabric called Faso Danfani
๐ The gowns of judges and lawyers are now made of Faso Danfani
๐ Nuclear Power Plant (project ongoing). It's being executed by the Russian giant Rosatom
๐ New public transportation busses
๐ A new company called Faso Rail for manufacturing train rails
๐ Army restructured, and state of art equipment acquired
๐ Donsin International Airport : an old project that was almost stopped because of corruption. Traorรฉ restructured everything, and the airport is soon to be completed
๐ Tema Multi Purpose Terminal : part of Tema Port of Ghana. Traore bought it for 70 million dollars. It's a hydrocarbon storage facility. It aims to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to Burkina Faso
๐ Road construction: massive road constructions aiming to pave 5K kilometers per year. It's worth noting that the entier country had only 3K+ paved roads since the so-collawd independence upto present days (more than 60 years).
๐ A company for manufacturing army military uniforms that used to be manufactured abroad
๐ Milk processing plants: five to be built in five cities. One has already been completed and opened in the capital. Butter, cheese, youghart, milk are the products.
๐ Gold refinery (under construction). Burkina never had one.
๐ A big and modern Business center (under construction). It's called Burkindi Business Center. In the capital Ouagadougou.
๐ New mining sector regulations to ensure total control of the sector by the state.
๐ Two big gold mines nationalized.
๐ Massive agricultural machinery acquired for agricultural devopment. This is very big project like the road construction one.
๐ Wheat and rice productions have significantly increased.
๐ A wheat flour factory (a PPP Project)
๐ A company producing fertilizers and other agricultural inputs backed by scientific research centers in the field.
๐ An electric car company: its called ITAOUA (name of a small village in Burkina). It's a private company but Traore's administration has facilitated things for the entrepreneur. By the way, just a few months after coming to power, Traorรฉ said that Burkina will have, among other factories, an electric car manufacturing plant. His critics made so much fun of him that time.
๐ A military academy (announced on May 14, 2024 after Traore's visit to Russia)
๐ Economic growth 5.1% in 2024 up from 3.0 in 2023.
๐ Good Governance: In 2024, Burkina ranked 9th best governed country in Africa and 3rd in West Africa. Ranking made by World Economic Governance Index 2024.
๐ Unprecedented anti-corruption reforms implemented in the administration. This is one reason Burkina scored high in the good Governance ranking. We note that the well known Mo Ibrahim Foundation, did not include Burkina in its top performing presidents for one reason; it does not recognize presidents who came to power by a coup, otherwise, Traorรฉ would have made it to the list.
๐ Under Traorรฉ, vast areas of the country that were controlled by terrorist organizations were liberated.
๐ Stadium renovated: the main stadium in Burkina Faso was shut down for almost 5 years now. FIFA and CAF ruled that it doesn't meet the International standards, thus ordered the shutdown. Now, under Traore, it has been renovated to the International standards. It will soon be opened.
The following paragraphs below are from a BBC article about President Traore. BBC which is banned in Burkina Faso for running smear campaigns against him canโt help telling some positive things about him as other media talk a lot about it.
โIn a sign that his Russian-allied junta has made some progress on the economic front, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank have given a generally upbeat assessment.
In a statement in early April 2024, the IMF said that despite a "challenging humanitarian and security" environment, the economy was expected to remain "robust" in 2025, and the regime had made "commendable progress" in raising domestic revenue, containing the public wage bill, and increasing spending on education, health and social protection.
As for the World Bank, it said that inflation had surged from 0.7% in 2023 to 4.2% in 2024, but the extreme poverty rate, which refers to people living on less than $2.15 [ยฃ1.61] a day, had fallen by almost two percentage points to 24.9% because of "robust growth" in the agriculture and services sectors.โ
NOTE: I'll leave this post pinned here. So do revisit it as I'll be updating it everytime I remember something. Also, I'll update it as new projects are announced and launched.
