Zoe Davidson Jewellery See Zoe's sculptural jewellery in the flesh. Try it on and watch her fold form in action. Based in Stromness, Orkney. http://zoedavidsonjewellery.co.uk/

Recent Jewellery & Metal Design graduate, Zoe Davidson, is based on the mainland of Orkney. She produces bespoke wearable sculptures aimed to capture the sensual qualities and flowing shapes inspired by her fond memories of being around the sea. Brought up in Brunei Darussalam, Zoe spent her free time scuba diving with her family. These experiences have inspired her greatly due to the amazing dive

rsity of colour, features and sensations that the sea creatures possess. Through flowing surfaces and striking metal forms, Zoe expresses her love for the ocean and its bizarre creatures that live within, by producing flamboyant wearable jewellery. Zoe has had the opportunity to meet and work with established artists such as Haute Couture/Fashion Designer, Iris Van Herpen (internship), and Body Architect, Lucy McRae (meet). Seeing these artists at work have inspired Zoe greatly, giving her the push of confidence needed to start her own. In all, Zoe shares with you, the unfamiliar forms, not seen in everyday life and transforms them into high-end wearable pieces. Thus, Bringing a quiet underwater world up to a bustling urban high-street.

T H E R E ' S. A. particular feeling at this time of year — the light shifting, the air warming, and the sea beginning to change. It’s what originally inspired my Spring Tides collection. 🌊

For this Easter weekend, I’ve made a small seasonal offering on these pieces.

A selection of Spring Tides jewellery is available with 10% off until midnight Monday, using code SPRINGTIDES26.

If something has been waiting for you, this is a lovely time to choose it.

Explore the Spring Tides collection. Exclusions apply.

Zoe Davidson draws much of the inspiration for her unique jewellery from Orkney’s seas, coastlines and rich history. She designs and makes all her pieces, mixing traditional silversmithing techniques with more unusual processes, including fold-forming and anti-clastic raising.

A. Q U I E T. M O M E N T. in the making… The pendants are formed, the settings nearly finished and now it’s time to choose the stones. Each piece is completely free-form, so it becomes a question of balance, colour, and instinct. London Blue Topaz, emerald, green amethyst… and an opal doublet.

Which gemstone combo would you choose?

I’ll share these beauties once they’re finished.

N E W. T O O L S. just arrived… 🍌

With the recent banana situation in Orkney, I thought it would be a good time to update my bench setup.

So far they’re proving surprisingly versatile:
– hammering
– marking out designs
– even a bit of stone setting…

Not sure how I managed without them.

April 1st… or a breakthrough?

❤️

D I D. Y O U. spot it straight away? At first, it just looks like an interesting shape…

But when you look a little closer, it’s actually inspired by House 1 at Skara Brae here in Orkney.

I love how three-dimensional it is — something to turn over in your hands and keep discovering.

H O W. A. J E W E L L E R Y. collection begins…

Before casting, each original design — known as a master — is carefully prepared with sprues. These allow molten metal to flow into the mould and form the piece.

Casting allows me to create some collections in a more accessible way.

But this isn’t mass production.

Pieces are cast in small batches, not thousands. Each one is then hand-finished at the bench — refined, polished, and carefully checked for quality and detail.

No two pieces are ever completely identical.

Casting is simply the starting point. The craftsmanship comes afterwards.

J E W E L L E R Y. T O O L S. you probably already own. Jewellery making involves specialist equipment, but some of the most useful tools on my bench are everyday items.

Paperclip - I hang jewellery from a paperclip while polishing. It helps me hold the piece securely and prevents it pinging across the workshop.

Children’s toothbrush - The soft bristles are ideal for cleaning delicate jewellery and gently getting around gemstones without scratching them.

Cotton string - With polishing compound added and secured in the vice, cotton string becomes a polishing thread, perfect for reaching tiny or awkward spaces.

Sometimes the simplest tools are the most useful.

Good craftsmanship is often about small, clever solutions.

S P R I N G. has arrived in Orkney 🌼

Snowdrops are pushing through the earth, and light is catching the gentle ripples of our Mini Sculptural Ripple Pendant with London Blue Topaz.

This little pendant is inspired by the movement of the seas — sculptural, tactile, and meant to be admired from every angle. Worn close to the heart, it carries a quiet beauty, like the first blooms of the season.

A reminder that spring isn’t just outside — it’s in the details we pause to notice.

W O N K Y. T U E S D A Y. confirmed by the radio 📻 we never heard of it until today.

We were polishing a ring… and well, it had other plans. Pinged off a sign, startled the doggo, and somehow landed on the right hand.

Even when life bounces unpredictably, craftsmanship wins.

Anybody else had a wonky moment today?

K E E P I N G. Y O U R. jewellery at its best ✨

A few simple habits make a big difference:

• Don’t sleep with your jewels on – unless midnight tangles and bent settings are your thing

• Avoid putting on makeup or perfume while wearing your sparkles - chemicals can cause tarnish, and tarnished metal is most likely not your vibe

• Please take your items off for exercise or swimming – sweat, chlorine, and salt water can harm metals and stones, and worse… you could end up with an injury!

Just a little care, and your favourites will stay as beautiful as the day you got them 💛

Our Story

Zoe Davidson draws much of the inspiration for her unique jewellery from Orkney’s seas, coastlines and rich history. She designs and makes all her pieces, mixing traditional silversmithing techniques with more unusual processes, including fold-forming and anti-clastic raising.

Zoe graduated in Jewellery & Metal Design from Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2013. She then undertook internships with Amsterdam fashion designer, Iris Van Herpen, and Plockton-based jeweller, Gilly Langton, before working with two Orkney based jewellery companies.

After launching her own business in 2016, back home in Stromness, Zoe was selected to show works alongside fashion-guru, Gok Wan. More recently, Zoe was asked to design a special collection to commemorate 150 years of the RNLI in Orkney, with 10 per cent of the proceeds from the sales of this Saltaire range donated to the charity.

In 2018, Zoe’s jewellery was chosen for sale within Edinburgh Castle, reflecting the quality and intricacy of her work, and is now, as of January 2019, on display in Skara Brae's visitor centre, Orkney.
