A new report chaired by Baroness Amos, an Independent Investigation into Maternity and Neonatal Services in England.

Maternity and neonatal care in England is not consistently designed to deliver safe, equitable and compassionate care, and that recurring failures continue despite many earlier reviews and recommendations.

Women and birthing people must be supported to make informed decisions, based on clear, balanced and evi-
dence-based information, with risk reassessed throughout pregnancy and labour. Decisions should instead be made through shared decision making between women and maternity staff, taking into account the best available evidence, the woman’s preferences, and her individual clinical circumstances. My take away is that this isn’t about birth ideology or defensive practice, it’s a system set to fail families and the health care professional working within it! The evidence is screaming for change. Women’s and babies health care needs to be prioritised. How many more reports are needed before we see meaningful changes?

Myself and enjoyed a day of learning, information sharing and networking at the 2026 conference. Our wonderful trustee was there to support us and raise awareness of our charity’s work. Our next event is Cassioberry Park on the 22/8 - come and speak to us about milk donation.
