Three cooler weather heaters. I’ve been trying to make my mind up about Fantasque by Givenchy Beauty and I think I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a very good very serviceable spicy warm slightly incensey amber that is difficult to dislike but perhaps not quite a love. And yet I’m rather drawn to it. Not sure why. It has an ever so gentle Oud at the base that niggles and gnaws at the senses. Burrowing its way in. Come back. Wear me again. Spray meeee. Etc.

As so often is the way it’s the little wrinkle in the experience that gives it the draw. The grit in the oyster or whatever.

Anyway. A nice perfume. Good day.

Another run out this evening for the new Dolce&Gabbana By Man rerelease. It’s as close to the 1997 formula as anything else out there is likely to be. Smells bloody fantastic. Yes. It’s expensive. But actually £70 in 1997 is around £180 today. So. Yeah ok £280 is quite an uplift on price even in real terms. Whatever. I like it. I don’t need your judgement thanks.

People want to know about the new Dior Beauty Official retreads of the old classics. Well. I can confirm they’re really nice. Jules has always been a funny one for me. The original vintage stuff is a bit too aggressive and spiky for me. The rerelease from a few years ago felt strangely devoid of character. This new one seems to me (from memory at least) to be somewhere more akin to the original with a modern feel. Altogether better.

Ah. The Harvey Nichols calendar. A collection of small perfumes. Ideal for people with tiny hands. Actually. I have a tale to tell here.

I was very pleased when Harvey Nicks got in touch to ask me about reviewing their calendar. It would give me a chance to complain about Mike Ashley and the manner in which I lost £300 to Harvey Nicks.

See. I bought a hoodie which I returned. But after the return had been sent and before the refund had been processed, Harvey Nichols was taken over by Mike Ashley’s retail group.

I was told to email some random ass management email account to get the refund sorted and was ignored comprehensively. So Harvey Nichols still owe me £300. Ta.

I’ll review the perfume calendar just as soon as that debt is settled 🙄

As perfume calendars go it’s fine. Details are on slide 3. It has some nice stuff. But I want my refund 💋

And lo. The fourth in the set. I bought this one. My initial reaction was that I wasn’t in love with it. And yet it kept calling me. It is just immense. Not sure what was wrong with me first go round. This is a gloomy dark cold vetiver with a blooming jasmine and a wonderful fatty smooth iris. It’s elegance in the extreme.

Grace‘ Routine ® Velin is a spooky strange ethereal sandalwood with a mysterious powdered iris and violet thing going on. It starts with a misdirection - it seems like it’s going to be Santal 33 esque but it actually quickly ambles off in the powdery purple direction where it gently softens and sweetens over the wear.

It’s quite a whispy sort of fragrance. Not weak but it comes and goes - occasionally just grabbing you and sometimes letting you forget it’s there.

Its very elegant and rather charming.
