Every couture project starts with the series of conversations that allow us to create technical pencil drawings that can be transformed into colour versions using a mixture of gouache, crayon and ink. VANESSA CHILTON

Trained at Chelsea Art College and went on to do he

r BA (hons) in jewellery and goldsmithing at Central St Martins art college. After graduating from here she designed for a number of established jewellers in London and abroad. Shortly after this she joined forces with Kate and Zoe. Vanessa is never far from pencils and paints and is passionate about designing interesting progressive jewellery. Her interests in the arts also include etching, printmaking, painting, sculpture and drawing. ZOE BENYON

After five years of working for different stone dealers and jewellers and obtaining her FGA and DGA she set up Robinson Pelham with her fellow directors in 1996. Since then her passion for gemmology and geology and a knowledge of the gemstone market has helped Robinson Pelham use some of the most interesting ingredients in their jewellery, from Paraiba tourmalines to brown diamonds and every shade of rainbow sapphires and garnets in between. KATE PELHAM BURN

Kate has worked in the jewellery trade for 29 years, working for various established London jewellers for nine years until setting up Robinson Pelham with Vanessa and Zoe. She has a raft of experience through all aspects of the trade, including gemmology, a passion for stones, sales, creating new jewels from old, trading in antiques, and offering impartial advice.

We were proud to have been part of the 20th Anniversary Exhibition held at the Garrison Chapel (occupied by the King’s Foundation) in London, from 12th-22nd February. The exhibition was a rare opportunity to experience excellence in craft traditions from Afghanistan, Jordan, Syria, Myanmar, Palestine and Saudi Arabia in a beautifully restored grade II-listed building.

It also featured the history of Turquoise Mountain and celebrated the achievements of the charity and how it has helped to revive historic areas and traditional crafts in the Middle East, providing jobs, skills and a renewed sense of pride amongst its artisans.

Robinson Pelham has collaborated with Turquoise Mountain for a number of years using beautiful, custom-cut gemstones as part of the Stereo collection. As Zoe Benyon, co-founder of Robinson Pelham, explains:

“It is so difficult in the jewellery industry to truly know the origin of the pieces we use, much less the artisan thousands of miles away. Turquoise Mountain are extraordinary in their ability to effortlessly give transparency, born from a total belief that the skills of the artisan are a celebrated part of the larger process. The materials Turquoise Mountain have supplied, which include Lapis, Malachite, Tigers Eye and Spinel Marble have all been of a sublime quality, and we have enjoyed the relationship enormously”.

Our Stereo barrels in 18ct yellow gold are set with diamond baguettes, rounds and princess cuts creating a playful design based on the cassette tape recorders of the 1980s. The Play, Rewind, Pause and Record buttons are also to remind us to slow down and take in what is around us.
