Christie’s upcoming 60th-Anniversary 007 Bond Auction features a Jet Boat, Faberge Egg, Astons, Omegas & More.

2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the 1962 release of the first Bond film - Dr. No. Celebrations have been ongoing all year so far, but perhaps the most impressive comes to us via auction house Christie’s, which is selling 60 lots containing items relating to all 25 official 007 movies.

Headlining the auction is a selection of film-used vehicles. These include one of the eight Aston Martin DB5 stunt cars built for No Time to Die, which is the only example ever offered for sale and is expected to fetch up to £2,000,000. There’s also a 1981 Aston Martin V8 driven by Daniel Craig in NTTD, a Q Jet Boat from The World Is Not Enough, and the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE motorcycle from NTTD that was heavily modified to handle the film’s incredible stunts. There are also several Land Rovers, a Jaguar, and another Aston all up for grabs.

While the vehicles are expected to fetch some of the largest sums, there are plenty of other interesting lots in the auction. Several film-worn Omega watches are available, including a Seamaster Aqua Terra and Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, both worn by Craig in NTTD. Some other highlights include Timothy Dalton’s License to Kill tuxedo, the Swarovski crystal-encrusted Faberge Egg prop from Oc*****sy, and Barbara Bach’s screen-worn dress from The Spy Who Loved Me.

As if the lots themselves weren’t cool enough, the proceeds from Christie’s Sixty Years of James Bond Auction will be donated to 45 different charities. The auction will take place in two phases - in London on Sept. 28, and an online auction running from Sept. 15 through Oct. 5.

Thousands could be unknowingly at risk of underinsurance according to one of Britain’s top jewellery valuers, Tim Belson, CEO of Prestige Valuations.

Over the last 12 months, the price of gold has increased by almost 20%, and diamond prices have risen 25% since last August. While this on the whole, is considered good news for those that hold gold and valuable jewellery - it does present challenges to the Insurance Industry. For if customers have not had items revalued they run the risk of being underinsured, meaning a like-for-like replacement in the event of theft or loss, could prove impossible.

"I have been in the jewellery and insurance industry for more than 35 years, and unfortunately come across underinsurance on an almost daily basis. There are trends, which we should be aware of. For example, during periods of high inflation as we are seeing now, underinsurance increases, as even those that would normally go for revaluation at regular intervals push appointments back in a bid to save a bit of money" said Tim.

"Ultimately though, those cost-saving measures can spectacularly backfire at the point of claim, when customers realise they will not be able to get a like-for-like replacement as gold and diamonds have gone up in value" he added.

When people initially take out an insurance policy on their jewellery, they generally know how much it’s worth, but over time, if they choose to reinsure at the same value then those policies become redundant as replacement costs will outweigh the insured sum.

The rise is obviously great for those lucky enough to own such precious items and timepieces, but without proper insurance cover - problems can arise.

Please don't get caught out.
