Let’s talk about what buying from small businesses really means and, why it matters 🎁🛍️⬇️

Choosing jewellery from an independent maker means choosing something truly considered. Independent jewellery is made in small batches or as one-off pieces, not mass-produced or endlessly repeated.

When you give a piece like this, you’re giving more than a gift. You’re giving time, skill, and care. Something personal, made to last, and unlikely to be seen everywhere else.

Supporting small jewellery businesses also supports the people behind the work. Your purchase helps cover rising material costs, studio rent, and the many unseen parts of running an independent business. It allows makers to keep creating, refining their skills, and producing thoughtful work.

If you’re buying less but buying better, independent jewellery is a meaningful place to start. Thank you for supporting small businesses.

📸 Personal branding has never been more important for independent designers. Here’s why 👇

People want to know the maker behind the jewellery – the hands, the story, the process. A strong portrait helps you communicate who you are before you even say a word. It builds trust, confidence and connection, which all play a big part in how customers choose who to buy from.

If you’re thinking about having your own portrait done, here are a few simple ways to prepare:

• Keep it natural – wear something that feels like you.
• Choose colours that complement your work or your brand but don’t distract from you.
• Think about how you want to be seen: warm and welcoming, focused or relaxed and confident.
• Avoid over-styling; authenticity always shines through.

Last year, our February designers enjoyed having a complimentary portrait photo taken by the talented as part of the special February showcase package! And guess what?! We’re doing it again in February 2026 to support designers again who are ready to strengthen their personal brand. It’s a great way to refresh your visual identity while showcasing your work at FORGE! And that’s not all we are including for free! More details coming soon. If you’re interested in fining out more comment “cheese” 😁 and we’ll send you some more details 📸

Don’t you think the designers in February look gorgeous! 😍

I truly believe this is the independent makers’ time to shine. Do you agree? Comment below 👇

Last Thursday we hosted our Private View for our December showcase, here is an extract from my short speech:

This year has not been an easy one for jewellery designers. Gold and silver prices have gone completely bonkers… reaching extreme levels we’ve never seen before.

And yet, the more openly we talk about these challenges, the more people understand that our increased prices are not driven by profit. We are all influenced by global forces far beyond our control. But nights like this remind us of something important: we are not alone.

When designers come together — 27 of you in this final showcase of the year — it reinforces that we’re all navigating the same landscape and there is something incredibly reassuring, and truly powerful, about standing side by side, supporting each other. Events like this are also a chance to say thank you — to the collectors, the buyers, and the supporters who continue to champion independent jewellery.

And for me personally, it’s an opportunity to thank every one of you who has supported FORGE over the past few years. It’s hard to believe that FORGE will be three years old in February!! What an extraordinary journey it has been — and one that has been shaped by this very community.

And actually… despite the challenges, I believe this is a really exciting moment for independent makers. It’s pushing all of us to think differently, to explore new ideas, to experiment with alternative and more affordable materials, and to show that true value lies in design, creativity, and skill — not simply the price of raw materials.

More and more people are learning to cherish the handmade. People are tired of AI and the uncertainty of what is real and what is not.
There is a renewed appreciation for the human touch — for pieces created by real hands, for the talents of real people, and for the beauty that only a maker can bring into the world.
