Simple, sumptuously textured jewellery, designed and hand-made on the south coast of England by Jo McAllister. This is me, hunting for stone tools on Winchelsea beach. I use stones to hammer fine silver 999, 18ct and 22ct gold, imparting a matt, granite-like texture and creating undulating edges that are painstakingly burnished to glint and catch the light.

Sky Worshipper’s Earrings…

My client had a pair of incredibly bright blue Swiss topaz studs, never worn as the colour overwhelmed her.

She couldn’t deal with the colour and brilliance, but the stones are hugely sentimental. She wanted a pair of dramatic yet wearable dangly earrings, to wear at a family wedding outside Barcelona, as well as with jeans and a shirt.

She was drawn to Sky Gazer’s Earrings whilst preferring the form of Sun Worshipper’s Earrings.

So, I played with form and scale, set the stones in a way that calmed the colour and quietened the flash, and my client has a one of a kind pair of Sky Worshipper’s Earrings.

And… she loves them so much she even wore them whilst she caught up with the ironing!

Observer’s Binoculars will be part of Box of Dreams, Goldsmiths Centre, as part of London Craft Week 2026
12-6pm 14th-15th May 2026

A selling showcase of contemporary jewellers and silversmiths alongside a curated exhibit on the theme which will include work by leading contemporary makers in textiles, glass, wood and metal.

The exhibition explores how boxes and vessels hold our ideas, treasures and secrets. Featuring work by artists across a range of disciplines including silver, wood, textiles and glass.
All works are for sale.
