Aṣọ The Aṣọ brand produces ethically manufactured African-inspired t-shirts, vests, t-dresses, jewelry, stationary and, accessories for men and women.

The Aṣọ brand is owned by Olumo Rock Enterprises (ORE) Limited a creative start-up incorporated in London, UK in 2013. ORE and Aṣọ were both created by a British-born Nigerian keen to explore creative expressions involving the interactions of African, European and other global cultures.

‘Aṣọ’ means ‘cloth’ in the Yoruba language. For us, Aṣọ is a metaphor for all people of African descent around

the world: something built from common fibres, adaptable, woven into many forms, but without loss of its original essence. On our collective journeys we offer and we receive. We are dynamic. We are constant. We continuously create new cultures whilst retaining our heritage. With the help of artists from across generations, we create clothing and accessories inspired by our many journeys and experiences, home and away, past, present, and future. We offer these up for the whole world to enjoy.

Ilê Aiyê Salvador Carneval 2026 (Part 1):Last Saturday, once again over the decades, the essential iconic Afro bloco Ilê Aiyê (Yoruba – House of Life) left their Senzala de Barro Preto (slave quarters) in Curuzu, Liberdade to participate in the rituals, and parade the streets of Salvador at Carneval 2026.⁣ This was for the community, and eyes across the globe. They were not initially invited to Carneval - they resisted and came to take up space. They are now a recognised highlight of Carnival in Bahia.⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
They were led this year by Deusa do Ébano - ⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
From outside the house of the late spiritual mother Mãe Hilda de Jitolu - a priestess (iyalorixá) of the Candomblé house of Ilê Axé Jitolu, and mother of the group’s co-founder Vovô, the group received blessings. The drums started. Ile Aiye and the religion of Candomblé are interwined. ⁣

The traditional parade continued through the streets of Liberdade.⁣ In attendance: teacher Olívia Santana (PCdoB), 51, the first black woman elected to the Legislative Assembly of Bahia.⁣
⁣⁣
The rain came. The drums and dancing were just as relentless. The bloco and the people then travelled the few miles to Campo Grande to join one of the main Osmar circuit. The drums restarted at 3am until the sun was high up at 7.30am.⁣

⁣To see the people of the bloco on the streets together is the realisation and manifestation of many powerful things: (Black + African) x (Unity + Joy + Beauty + Pride + Resistance + Culture + Community). This was math - that mathed.⁣

For over half a century, Ile Aiye have been at the forefront of everything Black: Black resistance, Black unity, Black community, Black growth, Black culture, Black pride, and Black empowerment. They deliver services to the community ' education, social, and cultural programmes.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣
⁣⁣
I had been blessed to witness these events, and the welcome, love and generosity of the people. ⁣
⁣⁣
Through my lens I hope I have been able to capture and spread the beauty of Ilê Aiyê.⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Resistance has a rhythm.⁣⁣⁣

Exhibition “Do pranto o oceano, e nadamos no amor” by Zéh Palito () at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Bahia: Bahia – MAC_BAHIA⁣
Rua da Graça, 284, Salvador⁣

For my penultimate day in Bahia, I was fortunate enough to make the penultimate day of this brilliant exhibition. Size, scale, and beauty. ⁣

From thei museum social media:⁣

“A pink shock of casual scenes, of a daily life that could be our own. A citizen of the world, globally Africanized, anointed by a diaspora that runs through him with the force of a decolonial Afrofuturist aesthetic embodied in his being. Empowerment became a key to his poetic process, established from the inside out, from the interior to the exterior — and then to the center,” writes Daniel Rangel (), curator of the exhibition.⁣

Final days to visit the exhibition “Do pranto o oceano, e nadamos no amor” by Zéh Palito () at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Bahia. through February 22.⁣

Final Days (must see!) Kerry James Marshall: The Histories⁣
20 September 2025 - 18 January 2026,⁣ at

From: https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibition/kerry-james-marshal⁣

“This autumn, experience the epic style of America's most important artist, Kerry James Marshall, whose powerful paintings place the lives of Black Americans front and centre.⁣

Internationally acclaimed artist Kerry James Marshall is one of the most important painters working right now.⁣

His vivid and mostly large-scale paintings place the Black figure front and centre. Marshall builds upon the Western tradition of history painting and makes visible those people who were so noticeably absent in the works that came before him.⁣

These powerful paintings are full of references which span art history, civil rights, comics, science fiction, his own memories and more. He uses these to comment on the past, celebrate everyday life and imagine more optimistic futures.⁣

This exhibition of his paintings will be the largest outside of the US, and the first chance for many to experience his works in the UK.”

It’s back for another season, one of our fave true-to-life-and-strife Black British TV shows - Dreaming Whilst Black. It is a truly brilliant comedy steeped in the Black British experience. It will make you laugh, think, and make you go Hmmm....⁣

Season Two is another masterpiece. Both series feature Black talent in front of and behind the camera - from the past, present, and future.⁣

⁣⁣Having some of my collection in both seasons has once again brings a sense of pride, and it has most importantly helped in my mission of promoting African culture from across times to different generations. Especially - Nigerian – Edo and Yoruba culture this time around.⁣⁣

Much gratitude goes out to and for their commitment to promoting Black British brands - on and off the screen. ⁣
