Torryburn – Witches Stones
For the final piece in this collection, I visited Torryburn in Fife to honour the story of Lilias Adie.
Accused of witchcraft in 1704, Lilias was an elderly woman who died in prison before she could be executed. Because she died without a conviction, her prosecutors feared her spirit might return. She was buried beneath a massive, heavy stone on the foreshore between the high and low tide lines to pin her spirit down.
Taking a direct imprint from the stone that was meant to trap her memory felt deeply emotional. What was intended as a place of restraint now serves as a quiet monument of remembrance.
With this final piece, I remember Lilias and every Wise Woman who stood firm in the face of fear. I can make most of the pieces in various pre set shapes or as free flow pieces. Visit Fife

Witches Stone - Forres - A site steeped in centuries of folklore and history. Today’s pendant features the textures of a heavy stones that lies between the wall of the road and the pavement.
Local legend connects this stone to the 10th century, marking the story of three Wise Women accused of bewitching King Duffus. Others tie it to the wider, tragic witch trials that swept Scotland in the 16th and 17th centuries. Either way, the stone carries a powerful story: Folktales say it was once bound in iron to restrain their spirits, showing how deeply feared strong, knowledgeable women were. Visit Forres

Dunning – Maggie Walls - Witches Stones:
Today’s pieces feature the textures from one of Scotland’s most mysterious sites: the Maggie Wall monument in Dunning.
Standing 20 feet tall and topped with a cross, this stone structure carries the stark painted words: “Maggie Wall burnt here 1657 as a witch.” Strangely, no official historical trial records exist for a woman named Maggie Wall. Many believe she never existed as a single person, but rather that the stone was built as a memorial to represent all the silent, forgotten Wise Women who lost their lives to persecution.
Whether a real woman or a symbol for the thousands who suffered, carrying this imprint feels like wearing a quiet vow: we will not let their memory fade.

Dornoch – Witches Stones - Textures of Scotland
This piece carries the direct texture and imprint of the Witch’s Stone as seen in the photo. This location is holding deep historical weight.
Dornoch is remembered as the site of the last ex*****on for witchcraft in Scotland, where Janet Horne was tried and condemned in 1727. Her story is a poignant reminder of the injustice faced by so many Wise Women whose knowledge, age, or independence were feared rather than honoured.
Carrying the tactile impression of the stone, this piece pays tribute to Janet and the countless women like her—reminding us of the strength, resilience, and wisdom that still carry through to today. This Is Dornoch

Witches Stones – Textures of Scotland
These pieces are dedicated to the memory of those—mostly women—who were wrongfully accused of witchcraft, tortured, and killed.
I am a strong believer in past lives. While I’m not saying I was one of them, I feel in my heart that I may have known some of these women back in the day. I prefer to call them Wise Women—because that is truly what so many of them were. They were healers, midwives, botanists, and community caretakers.
Since starting my creative journey a few years ago, I’ve met so many incredible modern Wise Women. We may no longer face the same trials, but strong, resilient, knowledgeable, and independent women are still questioned today. In many ways, we are the “witches” of the present.
For this collection, I visited five Witches Stone locations across Scotland and took direct imprints of the stone surfaces to craft these unique jewellery pieces. Over the next five days, I’ll be introducing each piece in alphabetical order.
Starting today with Bo’ness.
About the Bo’ness Witches Stone:
Located near Carriden, the Bo’ness stone commemorates the six local individuals—five women and one man—who were tried and executed for witchcraft in 1679. The site serves as a quiet, historic marker honoring the lives lost during the height of the Scottish witch trials. Take care when you visit as the stone is located on a Private road.
