Today I’m thinking of everyone who is remembering their mums. For many, Mother’s Day is a beautiful celebration — but for others it can be a day filled with reflection, memories, and love for someone who is deeply missed.
I lost my own mum eight years ago this July. She was only 54 years old, and losing her changed so much in my life. My mum was the reason I turned my jewellery-making hobby into a small business, launching Jewels of Asgard – Norse & Viking Inspired Jewellery & Gifts five years ago. Creating those pieces and connecting with other makers became an incredible journey.
Along the way I became part of many jewellery-making communities and discovered a wide range of mediums and techniques. One area that deeply resonated with me was memorial jewellery. I remember wishing that when my mum passed and after scattering her ashes, I’d had the knowledge and ability to create a memorial piece for myself — something that would allow me to keep a small part of her with me always, rather than only holding onto the physical possessions she left behind.
Through my work with resin in my Viking jewellery business, I began practising and refining the techniques needed to work with ashes and hair, learning how to turn them into beautiful, lasting pieces of memorial jewellery.
From that journey, Two Ravens Fine Memorial Jewellery was eventually born — a way for me to help others keep their loved ones close, in a meaningful and personal way.
To anyone missing their mum today, you’re not alone. 🤍
