Are you ever so determined to make something work that you try until you succeed?

This necklace is all soldered now and will be coming with me to Warehouse 701 for h.Art Herefordshire Art Week with Herefordshire Guild of Designer Makers.

Why was it so difficult? The melting point of the glass beads is lower than the temperature required to solder the silver bayonet clasp onto the silver cable wire. With the beads less than a millimetre away from the clasp, it took a while to work out how to do it.

Really chuffed now and looking forward to showing it in a few days' time. Hope to see you there!

This template was once used for map making. It still bears its owner's name. 'De Voogd' in Dutch means 'the guardian'.

Checking for accuracy....phew! 😅

The curse of minimalist jewellery is that every fraction of a millimetre counts. Its quality lies in what ultimately looks like an effortless piece, and its minimalist elegance belies the time and effort taken to create it.

After a while, you go cross-eyed trying to line everything up. Then you know it's time for a break!

These will be making their debut h.Art Herefordshire Art Week Warehouse 701 with Herefordshire Guild of Designer Makers.

What I make is rarely just for fun, without meaning. Usually, it's in response to something that has moved me deeply environmentally, politically, globally... sometimes personally. Mostly, it helps me process such events, or respond when words fail me.

In the 1970's, during French history at school, I read the quote "Après moi, le déluge" ("After me, the flood") in relation to one of the Louis and the decadence at the Palace of Versailles.

The quote has stuck with me ever since and resurfaced during the recent heatwaves.

The floods will soon return. By our response, you'd think we had nine lives.
