I’ve been looking forward to sharing this piece.
It was made for a friend to commemorate her lovely mother in law who was very well known within our village. So it was an absolute honour to make it for her.
She wanted it to be made in brass which has given it this wonderful gold colour. Although the intention was to make small charm entirely from brass, I hadn’t bargained for how much stiffer brass is to work with😳
This wasn’t an issue until it came to moulding the bezel edging over the glass, to hold it place. The brass literally had no give in it, so after discussions it was decided to use silver for the edging and brass for the other components.
This solved the issue, & gave an attractive mixed metal look to the piece. As she chose a clear glass for the ashes stone, the colour of the brass reflects through from underneath which is really pretty.
Jewellery is often a lot about problem solving and certainly gave me a few things to think about!!
I loved making it knowing it will be a much treasured piece, commemorating a wonderful lady who is greatly missed by her family, and many friends.
