Finally get to share the most exciting project I’ve had the pleasure of working on! In late January I received a DM from James McAvoy asking me to create 11 custom watches to commemorate his upcoming directorial debut movie California Schemin’ and invited me to the Premiere.

The past month was full of learning curves and obstacles, which as cliche as it sounds…made the finished watches even more special.

I had the privilege of spending some time with James when delivering the watches and he was so down to earth it was like I was just chatting to a pal.

Last night we got to watch California Schemin’ which was an incredible movie with phenomenal performances. I hadn’t heard of the story of Silibil N’ Brains before James reached out and growing up close to Dundee it’s surprising. Beneath the comedy lies an air of tragedy; with national pride being so high and the rise of native groups like Kneecap, I can’t help but feel they were two undoubtedly talented artists ahead of their time.

The work that’s gone into the Scotland NT WC26 watches surpasses that of any previous collection.

It was recommended to me to print the shirt pattern on the dial due to it being easier and financially more viable…anyway here’s the textured dial mould that took over a month of trial and error to get right.

Who is JJ Monaghan?

When I started JJ Monaghan in 2017, my goal was to bring stylish timepieces to the market at an accessible price. After a lifetime of following the crowd, I decided it was time to break the mould and independently fund the brand I had been envisioning for years.

Our first collection was widely sought-after with a highly limited run of 50 watches, and soon we were sending watches all over the world. During the first year, we have met and talked to some amazing people including the likes of Dominic Monaghan, Lindsey Sporrer, Glenn Howerton, and Craig Gordon. We have an incredible network of photographers and videographers as far flung as South Africa, Switzerland, India, Scotland, and Australia to consistently deliver ground-breaking content from the most exciting talent.

We’re driven by the people who live life outside the comfort zone, the courageous and those who know what they want and go out and take it.
