A little behind-the-scenes moment from today.

I have been sitting down to write the notes and jewellery cards for the orders heading out tomorrow, and I always think this is one of the loveliest parts of what I do.

Each piece gets its own card, with the name of the design and the natural materials it is made from, whether that is tagua, acai seeds, achira seeds or polished coconut shell.

And then of course, the personal notes.

It may seem like a small thing, but I never want an order to feel anonymous. I want it to feel as though it has been chosen, wrapped and sent by a real person who is genuinely grateful.

If you have ever ordered from us, thank you! Every order means such a lot.

And if your parcel is on its way tomorrow, I may well be writing your note today. ❤️❤️

Some necklaces are lovely to look at, but not always lovely to wear.

That is one of the things people often say to me. They love statement jewellery, but they worry it will feel heavy, awkward, or sit in the box after one outing.

That is exactly why I love tagua so much.

This beautiful Lily necklace has all the presence of a statement piece, but it is incredibly light, easy to wear, and simple to adjust so it sits where you like it.

Sue sent me this message after receiving hers and I thought it captured things so beautifully:

“I absolutely love my necklace! It is well made, a beautiful colour and so light to wear… I love the ethics behind it and the personal touch.”

I always smile when I hear things like this, because that is exactly what I want these pieces to feel like. Special, comfortable, and full of story.

If you love jewellery that gets noticed but still feels good all day, this might be just your sort of piece.

Do you prefer your necklaces sitting a little shorter, or longer?

Hello, and welcome to The Happy Elephant.

I’ve been a little quieter on here for a while, and it felt like a lovely time to properly introduce ourselves again, especially for those of you who are new here.

I’m Alison, and together with my husband Mark, we’re the people behind The Happy Elephant.

The business really began when I was living in Ecuador and discovered tagua jewellery for the first time. I’d never seen anything quite like it before. It was smooth, colourful, beautifully tactile, and so light to wear.

The more I learned about it, the more I loved it.

Tagua is a natural seed from the Ecuadorian ivory palm, and the jewellery is handmade by skilled artisan makers in Ecuador. That’s one of the things that has always mattered so much to us. There is real craftsmanship in every piece, and real people behind it too.

What began as something I loved wearing and bringing back for friends and family slowly grew into The Happy Elephant, a brand centred around colour, comfort, craftsmanship, and jewellery that feels a little bit different from the ordinary.

So whether you’ve been here a long time or you’ve only just found us, thank you so much for being here.

We’re really looking forward to sharing more with you again.

Had you heard of tagua before finding us?
