Man Pin

Man Pins are a collaboration between jeweller Islay Spalding and woodworker Louise Forbes. Hardwood pins designed to be worn on a lapel, jacket or kilt.

A shared workshop, love of wood, clean lines and letter pressed greyboard led to the creation of the Man Pin. Each one is made and finished by hand in Dundee from sustainably sourced hardwood with a hand made sprung steel pin. Collections are limited with edition numbers and wood types hand written on the letter pressed greyboard backing cards, the back of the card gives you some information about

the woods in the collection. The African Collection was first to launch, made with four types of colourful African hardwoods, followed by The Scottish Collection with new shapes and styles to choose from and a redesigned pin. The most recent collection, Fruit Wood and Resin, is made from five different fruit woods with coloured resin stripes. Collections in the pipeline include the My Man Pin Was A…Collection and the Solar System Collection. Limited amounts of Cufflinks and Tie Clips in a variety of shapes and styles are made from the same woods of each collection. Bespoke Man Pins can be commissioned in a range of woods and styles and can be personalised with laser engraving making them the perfect gift for grooms and groomsmen or groups of friends and family.

My Christmas Tree Was A…

Heard on the radio yesterday that it was National Bridge Day…so thought what a great day to share our Bridge Collection! But then didn’t, then did some research, then found out that contrary to the radio broadcast, the day was not about celebrating bridges, but celebrating BASE jumping! So I’m glad we didn’t make a fool of ourselves there! Phew!

But anyway…we are lucky to have some great bridges in Dundee, and I don’t know if anyone has tried BASE jumping off them…probably not high enough?!

The Tay Rail Bridge and Road Bridge are our biggies, and we made this drawing and collection of laser-etched Man Pins to celebrate them. Each Man Pin is individually cut to frame a part of the drawing making each Man Pin unique - a little bridge composition of your very own.

We had Leah Faulks in the workshop today helping finish up some Solar System Man Pins!
With only 200 in each limited collection, this is the final batch of Solar System Man Pins...get one while you can! �
Each Ebony or Rosewood Man Pin has been inlayed with silver and brass planets and a silver dust and resin asteroid belt. You can choose from a full solar system worth of planets, or just a few....or even just Uranus! (While stocks last!!) A guide to the planets is on the back of the letter-pressed greyboard backing card. �

A good day for Man Pins up in Aberdeen today at our first market of the season! Islay will be joining Louise tomorrow with a new batch of freshly finished whisky cask Man Pins….better be quick though as they’re going really fast!!

This weekend we’re popping up in Aberdeen for the first of our winter markets! ❄️

We’ll be at with both days 10am - 4pm alongside a whole host of other talented designers, makers and artists.

will be manning the stand so she’ll have some of her famously smooth hand carved spoons for sale, plus has sent along three of her silver to complete the story.
