Not one we've made this time, but a bit about 22ct gold. This belonged to Helen's great-grandmother, and it still has the most clear and beautiful hallmark, showing that it was hallmarked in 1915. Helen's favourite gold alloy is 22ct, due to the shade of the yellow.
Traditionally 22ct was the favoured metal at that time, though it is softer than 18ct. To preserve it, Helen wears it separate to other rings, since it's survived this long and we want it to last much longer!
Fine gold is 24ct, as gold is divided into 24 parts - 22ct means that it is 22 parts fine gold and 2 parts other metals. In comparison, 9ct is only 9 parts gold (or 37.5% of the content), which is why the yellow colour is much paler.
With gold prices high at the moment (though they're starting to come down), 22ct is expensive to make but it gives such a rich colour.

From sketch to finished piece

This splint ring is specifically designed for the customer's needs, and we made a template in silver to check the fit before proceeding. It's designed to look on the hand like two separate rings. The final piece was made in 9ct, with a hammered finish and set with the customer's own diamond.

As a heatwave is starting, it's a good idea to take off any rings if you either already feel that they're quite tight, or if (like me) your fingers swell with heat.

My rings are coming off and being put away safely, before the heat makes them too uncomfortable. For the health of your fingers, rings should always be able to move freely on the fleshy part of your finger.

If you can't remove them, we can cut them off free of charge, and then can quote for the upsizing once your finger has returned to its natural size.
