So I have been scammed it seems. I bought a bottle of Goose Vodka in a goose shaped bottle through Facebook Ads. It was going to be part of my daughter's birthday present. I was a bit suspicious when there was no email but I thought no more of it. Anyway I did a bit of checking and yes it's a scam. But sent from a padlocked site so it looked pukker.........ever been had?

Feeling a bit humbled as I just received the Creative Crafters Handbook and I am in it along with some of the great and the good. Wish I could tell my mum she always told me that Art would not be a living. Well, Mum, Art is a big word and I think I proved you wrong. Creativity is in anyone and Art is personal to you, but go on create, make Art you can do it!

Unfortunately, despite running out of prescribed painkillers, my surgery refused to oblige with a request through the NHS app to collect them yesterday. So today I am suffering big time and am unable to do anything. However I have watched a video on claw setting which seems to be right for a ball shape setting. One claw setting you first have to create 2 circles of metal and then add individual prongs. This works well with faceted stones but I dont like it. So the other way is to create a cross from silver wire, ensuring the height of each prong will be about 4/5mm above the stone. Solder the crossed wires together and pull the four ends straight up. After fitting the ball to ensure you have the right size, you remove the ball, hold it upside down and melt the ends of the individual prongs to create little balls on the end - looks neat and saves a bit of work. Place the stone ball back in the setting and working north and south and east and west pull each prong over the ball to create the setting. I would imagine that if you want to create a ring you should solder the setting to the ring first? Likewise if its a pendant solder the jump ring to the setting first. Anyway it sounds simple enough. But I am unfortunately in no fit state to try today. Hopefully tomorrow

Just heard the sad news that the Rugby League legend, Sir Billy Boston, has died. Now some of the Welsh diehards may consider Sir Billy as a traitor but I had the pleasure of spending some time in his company, a long time ago at an event to honour him. He explained that it was hard enough to be a Black rugby player, the Ella brothers voiced the same opinion, but being unpaid with a wife and child was worse. Rugby League welcomed Sir Billy, (my dad was a Northerner and Northern hospitality was legendary) and he found a home doing what he loved. Sadly his precious wife died a few weeks ago and now Sir Billy has followed her. So let's forget the sporting politics and wish a great man may he rest in peace.

So I have this wonderful Amethyst ball that I think would make a great ring. So I am going to try something I have never done before - a claw setting. I am going to have to read up on this but I think I could manage it. Hopefully I wont damage the Amethyst

So I mentioned Jayne from Blodau A***n imagination. This pendant was made up of silver grains but can be worn either showing it as 'cups' or like little balls! From silver granules - amazing! I would never have though of using the granules to make jewellery - I would have just melted them! But Jayne thought this would look good - but this is a lady who makes fab innovative jewellery including mushroom earrings!

I have always been inspired by a Swedish silversmith Rosa Taikon but I am also inspired by 2 very Welsh silversmiths. Blodau A***n has taught me so much and given me the confidence to work properly and imaginatively! Today I changed the blade on my saw and sweat soldered 2 pieces - a few months ago I wouldn't have attempted that. The Splatt pendant and ring are a testament to Jayne's way of seeing things differently. Lisa Lane Jewellery has taught me the alchemy that is etching, I now look at walls in a completely different light, and granulation. Both these techniques can really enhance a piece of jewellery. Etching is particularly interest grabbing - working with chemicals you do feel like an alchemist! I have been tremendously lucky that with the help of an Arts Council of Wales grant I have been able to have some intense tutoring from these amazing women. I am forever grateful they agreed to tutor me!

Tried to get a photo of the Splatt pendant and ring outside. Sadly I didn't realise my battery was low so although the pendant is not too bad, you can't really see the ring and I have to charge my phone. It didn't help that Doris my chicken also decided to get involved - thought she was a magpie for a second or 2! More pics later
