Happy birthday, Gemini!

Even though Moonstone is not a Gemini birthstone it's seen as a useful crystal for this zodiac sign.

Moonstone is said to symbolise new beginnings, to help regulate conflicting emotions and to create balance and clarity.

And I just happen to have two beautiful pieces from the Beneath the Stars collection made with moonstone cabochons... 🌙

Last week I took a trip to the The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office in London to hand in my first ever pieces to be hallmarked.

As someone with a history background I love the fact that I have now become part of a tradition that is over 700 years old. It goes back to Edward I’s Hallmarking Statute of 1300, the earliest known UK law in the United Kingdom to regulate the quality of precious metals. In 1478, the UK’s first Assay Office was established at Goldsmiths’ Hall London, where it still is today.

Isn’t that amazing?

I handed in a couple of signature pendants for my new collection, Domed – combining powerful statement jewellery with ideas of flow and movement, empowerment and care. More soon!

[ID: Carousel of images from outside and inside the London Assay Office, with its mark, the leopard’s head, on the door and above the entrance hall. In one photo, Helga, a white woman with short, white hair and glasses, is standing outside, squinting into the sun, and in another she is smiling brightly into the camera, wearing a large, square silver pendant with rounded corners and a domed hemisphere in the top corner. In the last image, the pendant is photographed lying flat on a light purple surface.]

Happy birthday, Ta**us! ♉

A beautiful, reliable and steadfast earth sign with a love for arts and culture, I think it almost looks as if ta**us was wearing starry dangly earrings... don't you think? 😊

Mood Board Monday: Sharing the inspiration for my upcoming jewellery line, Domed.

With Domed, I will be combining the beauty of powerful statement silver jewellery with ideas of flow and movement, self-empowerment and self-care.

The signature pendant of this line is based on the image of a ray serenely gliding through water.

I am also using the shape of a bowl, which brings up associations of comfort, warmth, nourishment and working with the earth, as well as a protective, nurturing and secure space.

I can’t wait to launch this line!

[Collage of scenes, objects and designs that describe the inspiration for this collection. The title image is a square silver pendant with rounded corners and a domed hemisphere in the top corner. The pendant lies on a light purple surface. It is slightly curved, like a ray in motion. The title reads: Mood Board Monday.]

Do you love wearing jewellery that is unique, makes you feels special and has a story to tell?

I do, and that is also the kind of jewellery I make. This pendant, which I gifted to myself this year, is a nod to my previous occupation as an archaeologist and my interest in traditional crafts.

It was inspired by the shape of early medieval circular broches with long pins (the archaeological term is penannular or pseudo-penannular). The famous Irish ‘Tara Brooch’ is a well-known example. Here I have included some silver Viking brooches from Dublin’s National Museum of Ireland.

The decoration is inspired by weaving techniques because those brooches traditionally were used as cloth fasteners.

So this is my very own, unique, archaeology-inspired and yet entirely contemporary pendant.

Get in touch if you’d love to have your own and would like to doscuss an idea!

[ID: Carousel with images and a short video featuring a unique circular silver pendant with a slim “pin” cutting the circle in half, ending with a free-moving silver bead. One half of the circle is filled with a pattern woven from silver wire with 3 silver beads. Two photos show silver Viking circular broches with long pins, and one shows tablet weaving, an ancient weaving technique that uses small tablets or cards to produce narrow strips of fabric for belts, trims or even shoe laces.]

I love all aspects of jewellery making but few I find as calming and meditative as polishing with a polishing wheel.

So on today’s Workbench Wednesday I’m sharing this little reel of me polishing away on some of my Beneath the Stars signature pendants. 🌛

Arts and crafts are recognised for their positive impact on mental health, so sharing this during Stress Awareness Month feels right.
