Pellet O’Clock 🦉

It’s amazing what you start to notice once someone shows you something.

Most of my adult life, I had no idea about these little balls of treasure. Now, we’re spotting them everywhere!

And that’s exactly what we love about journalling adventures. When kids stop to record what they see, hear, discover, wonder about and enjoy, they start paying more attention to all the little things happening around them.

The tiny discoveries, the unexpected moments. The things they might otherwise have missed.

Because when you learn to notice the small things, you start seeing the world a little differently. And that’s a pretty lovely habit to take with you through life.

Some safari wishes are VERY specific… and mine for Kgalagadi were no exception. 😅

But what happened over those few days went way beyond the sightings I’d hoped for.

Kgalagadi is something else. The birdlife knocks your socks off, the sightings are big and bold, and with so few cars around, you really feel like you’re out there in the wild.

The kids had some BIG ticket sightings on their list too, and a fair few got ticked off. We had high expectations going in, and I’m very happy to say that ALL expectations were exceeded.

Back home, almost back to school and back to normal(ish) - but our heads are still somewhere out on the road, reliving the adventures.

We’ve got so many moments from the past few months that we never got around to sharing, so September is all about looking back, reliving and sharing the adventures - the places that made us stop in our tracks, the sunrises that took our breath away, and the big and small moments that found their way onto the kids’ journal pages.

We honestly believe there’s nothing quite like a safari holiday.

Maybe it’s the wide open spaces, the smell of the bushveld, sunsets that are better than Netflix, and early mornings that start the day with adventure.

It’s cooking over an open fire and sitting around the campfire long after dinner. It’s being close enough to incredible wildlife to really watch and learn — discovering birds, understanding how things work and why, noticing the plants, following footprints, and sitting quietly at a waterhole watching the bush come alive.

It’s all the little moments that make a safari so special.
