“They called it ‘junk’… I called it discovering stories. Before it was a brand, it was a curiosity.” ✨
From embroidering my old denims, creating small crafts, baking healthy food, and making pickles — honouring my mother’s and grandmothers handcrafted picking skills. I today share the story that started long before songbird crafts even had a name 🦚✨.
From creating my own jewellery using “junk” from my father’s workshop in Mumbai, I slowly started developing a deep interest in handcrafted items.
Lived in India for almost 30 years and moved around the world for my extensive sports management career, where I couldn’t always find time to create crafts, I still made time to visit local flea markets — just to discover, collect, and honour local art and craftsmanship.
My massive collection after work trips from different countries like Malaysia, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Australia and New Zealand raised questions, as even my own mother would often ask, “Why do you keep collecting junk?”
Little did I know that what looked like junk to others was actually the fire kindling inside me— a passion that inspired the creation of this platform for artisans to showcase their talent.
With the desire to promote my own crafts, along with all handcrafted creations and the stories behind them, Songbird Crafts was born.
As I continue to receive so much love and interest from you all, I wanted to share the heart, effort, and journey behind the brand — Songbird Crafts.
