Red Poppy on Remembrance Day: A Legacy of Memory 🇨🇦

During the First World War, the fields of Flanders in Belgium were covered with crosses marking where soldiers had fallen. It was there that the red poppies first bloomed, becoming a symbol of sacrifice and remembrance. In 1915, Canadian poet and army doctor John McCrae wrote the poem “In Flanders Fields”:

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly..."

In 1921, the idea of wearing an artificial poppy on the chest was embraced by the Royal Canadian Legion, and since then, millions of Canadians have honored their fallen heroes this way.

Today, the red poppy is more than just a flower. It whispers of pain and loss, bravery and devotion. It reminds us of those who remain forever on the battlefields and calls on the living to never forget their sacrifice.
