Most road trip packing advice focuses on what to wear or what to pack in your overnight bag.

That matters, obviously.

But the car setup matters too.

A long drive feels very different when your phone is charged, your snacks are cold, your rubbish has somewhere to go, and your emergency gear isn’t buried under 3 sweaters and a rogue bag of chips.

I put together a practical list of 10 things to bring on a road trip, especially if you’re doing longer drives, weekend getaways, or Canadian road trips where stops can be more spread out.

Take a peek before your next drive:

If you’ve ever tried planning a Quebec road trip and ended up with 20 tabs open… this is for you.

The drive from Quebec City to Saguenay looks straightforward on a map. It isn’t.

There are so many places to stop, and most guides don’t help you decide what’s actually worth pulling over for.

This route breaks it down in a way that makes sense:

Stops that fit naturally into the drive
Places where you’ll actually want to get out of the car
A mix of nature, viewpoints, and cultural sites

It’s the kind of trip that works best when you don’t try to cram everything in.

If you’re looking for a hands-on nature experience near Vancouver that actually slows you down, this one’s worth your afternoon.

Athiana Acres in Steveston is a 30-acre certified organic, regenerative farm named after the Panatch family’s ancestral village in Punjab, India, where their family has been farming for over a hundred years.

Here’s what the cut flower workshop looks like:

🌷We were given a gorgeous mix of blooms to start with: anemone, ranunculus, parrot tulips, sweet peas, statice, and lisianthus, then headed out into the fields to pick our own calendula and borage.

👩🏽‍🌾 Everything in the arrangement was grown right there on the farm

You make a bouquet and a bud vase by hand in a beautiful glass greenhouse on the property.

It’s slow travel and soft adventure rolled into one afternoon, forty minutes from downtown Vancouver

Farm tours run every Sunday from April through October if you want to understand the land before you arrange from it.

This is agritourism done right, and it’s closer than you’d think.

Thank you to for having us, for including this as part of the conference programme, and for showing us a side of Richmond most people never see.

💬 Have you ever visited a farm while travelling? Drop it in the comments.

Has anyone been to Port Moody, near Vancouver? I love this scenic area that has tons of cute shops and places for coffee. There’s also a train car you can go into and a free museum.

Plus, there’s really good ice cream (with vegan options)!

Not a soccer fan but curious what all the FIFA World Cup buzz in Vancouver is actually about? This exhibit is where I’d start.

Soccer & Technology from the FIFA Museum just opened at Science World, 1455 Quebec Street, Vancouver.

It’s making its North American debut right here — Vancouver was chosen as the first stop.

The official FIFA match ball has a sensor inside tracking its exact position in real time. Every ball used in official matches worldwide performs identically anywhere on earth.

The broadcasting section puts you in the director’s chair. You choose which camera angle tells the story at any given moment.

There’s VR. There’s a goalie challenge. I missed every single shot.

Canadian artifacts on display include Christine Sinclair’s jersey from Canada’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medal game.

And the match ball from Alphonso Davies’ first-ever Canadian men’s World Cup goal.

This isn’t designed for die-hard fans. It’s designed for curious people.

Open daily 10am–4pm until September 7, 2026.

I was at the media preview today and kept being surprised by what’s underneath this sport.

Most people will spend this coin without ever knowing what they held.

The Royal Canadian Mint unveiled Canada’s official FIFA World Cup 2026 (TM) commemorative loonie today - on the actual pitch at BC Place. And I was there.

🪙 A new loonie designed to mark Canada co-hosting the men’s FIFA World Cup (TM) for the first time.

Toronto and Vancouver on the same coin. BC Place already has FIFA history - the 2015 Women’s World Cup final was played right here. Now it’s adding another chapter.

🎨 Designed by BC artist Glen Green, from Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

He’s the same artist who designed the entire series of Vancouver 2010 Olympic quarters. The Mint has been calling him ever since. You’ve almost certainly had his coins in your pocket before.

🏭 Made in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where every Canadian coin in circulation is produced, along with coins for dozens of other countries around the world.

🎁 Coins are different from other souvenirs. We choose most keepsakes deliberately. A photo, a ticket stub, something we decide to keep. Coins find you. They turn up in your change years later and take you straight back to the moment.

🔍 Two versions — a colourized one with the red and orange maple leaf mosaic, and a regular gold-coloured one. Three million have been struck. You might already have one without knowing it. Want one intentionally?

Order them online at mint.ca

Slow travel, at its core, is all about intentionality and noticing.

Are you someone who notices the details, or lets the moment pass? 🪙

Have you heard of Squamish Canyon? Here’s everything you need to know before you visit. 👇

What to expect at Squamish Canyon

It’s a 1.5km boardwalk loop through birch and alder forest in Squamish, BC, built around Mamquam Falls and the Mamquam River.

The route takes you through the forest, over viewpoints looking down into the canyon, and back to the entrance without retracing your steps.

Allow two to three hours. It sits within Squamish Nation territory, where this land has held meaning long before it became an attraction.

Accessibility

There are significant staircases throughout, including one long run of stairs. If you or someone in your group has mobility limitations, this is worth knowing before you buy tickets.

There are benches along the route to pace yourself, but the stairs are unavoidable.

Food on site

The Forest Lounge sits mid-way through on an outdoor deck surrounded by old-growth trees. Vegan options include the VegHead sandwich, vegetable chili, and hummus, with oat and macadamia milk available for coffee. A good reason to slow down rather than push through.

How to get there

About an hour north of Vancouver on BC-99. The final stretch of road is rough and gravelled…take it slowly in any car. Parking is free, though depending on where you park you may have a short walk to the entrance.

Practical tips

Wear layers. Bring water. A weekday visit is quieter. An overcast day is genuinely ideal for photos. Check hours at squamishcanyon.com before you go. Confirm current pricing before visiting.

Thank you to and for hosting me.
