📢 Call for Indigenous Artists - UVic Engineering and Computer Science 🎨🖌️
UVic is inviting Expressions of Interest from Indigenous artists and artistic teams to create a permanent feature artwork for the new Engineering and Computer Science Expansion Building at its main entrance.
This commission seeks a powerful, welcoming work that reflects Indigenous ways of knowing and being, honours local Nations, and affirms UVic’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
We welcome proposals across a range of media (not limited to canvas) for a wall-mounted installation that will greet students, faculty, and visitors as they enter the building. We are seeking designs that leave viewers with a sense of respect, belonging, connection to land, and recognition of Indigenous innovation, past, present, and future.
✨Priority will be given in the following order✨
• Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) and/or W̱SÁNEĆ artists and teams
• Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka’wakw Nations on Vancouver Island
• Indigenous artists from across BC and Canada
💰Commission budget: $100,000 (excluding installation)
🎨🖌️Artwork size: Up to 3.6 m wide × 2.0 m high
