Happy Channukah! I was inspired by a project with my students to make my son a channukiah (menorah). We are partway through the holiday already so this was pretty spontaneous but it came out great! Open for personalized commissions and these will definitely be added to the docket next year.

It is fascinating to watch our findings shift with the seasons. Flowers give way to leaves, moss, berries, tiny pine cones and buds. You can walk down the same strip every day and marvel at the shift in colour and size. We have also gotten very lucky with neighbors clearing out their flower beds to prepare for the winter.

Stop and smell the...onions?

Since we collect our own materials we are trying to find as much as we can before winter. These pretty white flowers were growing wild just around the corner from our home. When I went to grab some (to the amusement of our neighbors) I didn't understand why my hands smelled of garlic. Turns out this species is called "ornamental onion"! Well, going to pop them in the dehydrator and see what happens. The good news is once they are in the resin they won't have any smell!

One of the best parts about this project has been learning how to see the world from my children's eyeline and perspective. Not only is the landscape completely different down here, but you notice entirely new details that get overlooked from an adult's eyeline. Take some time today to notice the little moments of magic, and don't be afraid to change the angle.
