Repair Cafe Peterborough

Repair Cafe Peterborough This free event is a place to share knowledge, build skills and help get those broken items fixed! Visitors bring their broken items from home.

Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things (together). At a Repair Cafe, you’ll find tools and materials to help you make the repairs you need - on clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, toys, jewelry, etc. You will also find repair specialists such as electricians, seamstresses, carpenters and mechanics. Together with the specialists they start making their re

pairs in the Repair Café. We learn and fix together. If you have nothing to repair, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Or you can lend a hand with another repair job. You can also get inspired at the reading table – by leafing through books on repairs and DIY. At Repair Cafe Ptbo, we are concerned about what ends up in the trash - not just how much is ending up in the landfill, but also what items are being tossed. REpair and REpurpose, seem like a couple 'R's that could be added to the equation when we consider the life cycle of the items we own. Repair Cafe's help to extend the life of a few of items, while offering a space for connecting with others and learning new skills. That sounds pretty great to us. We hope you think so too! Ways to get involved with Repair Cafe:

+ Be a part of the organizing committee - Would you like to help with promotion, finding fixers, or sourcing supplies?
+ Become a volunteer fixer - Can you repair a lamp, fix a necklace, darn a sweater, troubleshoot computer problems?
+ Bring an item to be fixed

For the past two years, Andrew has graciously allowed us to host our monthly Repair Cafe events at Dreams of Beans and during that time we have seen a steady growth in numbers both of volunteer fixers and attendees looking to have their items fixed. We are so excited to see the community support of our events

We want to continue to be able to host our events at Dreams of Beans and are trying to come up with solutions in order to be able to have more fixing stations available.

If you don't know Andrew, he is an incredibly hard working small business owner who prioritizes creating an inclusive and welcoming community gathering space. This is not only in the main part of the cafe, but also in the side room where a number of community events take place: our monthly Repair Cafe, poetry slams, open mic poetry nights, Stage Cafe, Beats Beatdown, and Magic The Gathering for Women.

It would be so great if we could clear these two pieces of equipment out so that he can continue to host so many great community events.

Let us know if you are interested in taking away either of these two pieces of equipment or you're willing to help clear them out!!
