Sometimes less is more. Probably should've been doing something else, but I hardly ever get caught up in the urge to play these days. I love seeing how limiting my palette or my materials prompts me to see individual elements more closely, to better appreciate texture, shape, or movement. And honestly? I think just the hops and bronze fennel looked pretty special all on their own.

What do you see? I see July, in fullness and splendour. The generosity and flourish of summer colour and pure joy. The occasional perfect leaves, spared from my usual editing fingers that pluck them off. The most gentle textures, the volume of negative space, the gentle generosity of petals waiting to unfurl. I love flowers. I love this palette. What a welcome back to the season. This is the creative work: weaving together colour and shape, finding flow in the season and what it gives us, uncovering the ways we can witness the beauty together.

A few of you are thinking, 'I can hear this photo.' If you can, know that I appreciate you for it and I hope we laugh together soon. It's mid-November, all the local field-grown flowers have been finished for a month, and fall feels like it has been whisked away, right out from under my nose. I am not really a summer gal (yikes, I said the quiet part out loud) but I definitely miss the length of the days, and the rhythm of flower pickups and time with my floral community. I miss looking out and seeing the sun painting the tops of the trees with that fiery glow, even as the leaves put on their colourful coats and make their exit. Well, that's done now, and it's time to (re)learn the rhythms of late fall and winter. This is kind of an update, and kind of a to-do list. The coming season is for gratitude, mindfulness, preparing good food with friends, making things with my hands, cold dips in the lake, and learning how to start and keep a woodstove fire going. Check in if I haven't heard from you lately; how's it going over there?

Photos by the loveliest . Thank you for capturing me in both of these moments.

I love the Bruce Peninsula, Lake Huron's welcoming water, early evening light at the height of summer, and a monochromatic floral palette. A sweet celebration with your nearest and dearest can be simply magical. Cheers to intimate weddings! And yes. Your wedding can be small, with abundant flowers; or large, with the lightest floral touch. It's up to you and how you want local flowers to fit into your day.

Mollo + Will, you made my colour palette dreams come true. We put together vibrant and joyful wedding flowers for your big day and I am actually so happy with how everything turned out I would do it all over again in a heartbeat (though maybe not in the same heat. The heat was a bit much.) Congrats you sweet things, you're married!! It was an honour to be part of your big day!

🌿 The hugest shoutout to my team for the week. It would have been impossible without you. You made magic! Thanks for bringing your hands to the flowers (and heading up the ladder) with me.

🌿 Our local growers also came through huge for this one. Thank you for all your beautiful flowers!!!

🌿 And just a reminder, we didn't use any flower foam for this wedding. This one was all foam-free, as are all EDCo weddings. Bit by bit, a little less single-use plastic; conscious choices that we can all make.

How to absolutely rock the getting married thing in five steps 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼
1/ Let your mini Aussie lead the way
2/ Put a ring on him (or her), when they say "I do"
3/ Bring a little black to classic white and green, for ~drama~
4/ Laugh til your face hurts, with your favourite people
5/ Do it your way, all the way

Sometimes, as we work on your wedding design, the months fly by and we become good friends. On your wedding day, I find myself running up the gravel driveway chasing you as you zip away in a golf cart to say your "I do"s. Alene + Chris, this one goes down in the books as tons of fun and memorable in so many ways!!! Thank you for trusting me to bring this colour palette and floral vision to life. It's a joy and an honour to meet you and your families + loved ones; and to be counted in your future together 💖

I don't know what to call this palette, other than earthy neutrals; it's quickly becoming a favourite because there are so many seasonal favourites that we can use to bring it to life. Local faves featured heavily in every part of the design:
/ Ranunculus from
/ Apricot stock and snapdragons from
/ Astilbe + panicum grass from , plus so many other goodies, through
/ Apricot lisianthus (through )
👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 Swipe to see an attendant posy, adorable circular boutonnieres, a cute head table centerpiece repurposed for the ceremony, the sweetest first dance, some florist fashion (wedding reception edition!), and Zephyr dreaming about future ridealongs as a full-fledged florist dog.

We're somewhere back between spring and summer today, somehow. I wore long sleeves and pants to water the garden and as the water arched over the jumble of plants (and weeds) I thought, "oh, Kate and Chris celebrated their one-year anniversary last month. And next month, they're having their party." The best of spring and the best of summer for two sweet souls. When I came inside I wanted to share a little softness and richness, a bouquet full of lush local goodness from their intimate wedding. So here we are.

Tis the season. Local blooms, all local blooms. There's no better feeling than designing with flowers grown by people who I know personally. I see how hard farmers work to bring us such stunning flowers. Every time you order something for a special occasion, to share your love with someone who you deeply cherish, and you ask me to be a part of that gift, I remember why I do what I do. Thank you for choosing to be part of this beautiful system: you feed me, you feed farmers, you take another sustainable step with me.

This arrangement is a special one. It's the first time something that I grew has gone out in a design, and it feels like even though this was to celebrate your birthday, Heather, it also felt like I got to give you a little gift of my own. I'm so glad you're part of my community, and I'm so glad that you love your birthday flowers. Ranunculus, anemones, stock, and snapdragons all grown by Amy at ; allium schubertii, bronze fennel, and lemonbalm grown by me. For a lovely local Grey County photographer,

One of my favourite parts about being a florist is freelancing for other florists, some of whom I would count among my closest friends. Freelancing means I get to work hands-on with another person who shares my trade. The mental load of entrepreneurship -- managing clients, running through complex logistics when delivering large weddings, cultivating relationships with a team, and the pressure of the expectation of perfection in an industry like mine -- can be overwhelming. Finding a moment to put your head together with someone else who gets it, and just knows how to pick up what you put down right from the start, feels like a lifeline. Never mind the fact that like everyone else, florists are people like everyone else. So here's to you, my florist family. I love you, I'm here for you, I can't wait to get to work with you again soon.
