Remake of a very special beanie for a very special person.

A little bit about what Sierra had to say last time we worked together ;

“The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people have a very distinct Coast Salish style that’s experiencing a cultural resurgence as we speak. Coast Salish people and our Art forms haven’t been visible for so long. I reached out to Halle after seeing their moons on beanies and thought how similar it looked to Salish Eyes and asked them to do a collaboration by adding the distinctive crescent and trigon shapes. Salish eyes are portals and ways for our ancestors to connect with us from the Spirit Realm. Nature taught us these shapes and I’m so excited I have something I can wear everyday to rep my Coast Salish culture whilst supporting other Indigenous artists. Sometimes as beaders we forget that we are allowed to make ourselves things, not everything has to have a monetary value put to it , or be gifted away to take place of a bought gift.

Moose hide; Beaver and 11/0 glass Myukis beads were used to create these moccasins

🍄 🍄 I made my very first ribbon skirt for one of my dearest friends! (NFS) 🍄🍄

Also like why couldn't I find Shrek fabric? That was my original vision when I purchased the basic skirt from . I added extra ribbon and the mushroom fabric.

I've spent the last month teaching myself things with the sewing machine just so I could start creating skirts! Im proud of myself. Started with a quilted tote bag, a child's dress and privacy shorts, French seamed quilted box zipper bag and a stuffed animal, and of course a couple scrunchies. Taught myself how to use the button setting, make my own bias tape, how to make ruffles, and drawstring waist bands. Safe to say, I've gotten quiet comfy with a sewing machine now.

Things I learned; it's easier to get things done while also being kind to yourself in the process.

I dusted off my sewing machine after 12-13 years and decided to make something without beads.

Using scrap fabric, I attempted a tote bag with lining, all without a pattern. It was a great reminder that I have skills beyond beading, and that sometimes it's good to wake up dormant talents.

Beading is demanding, but exploring other materials can be liberating.

This was a fun challenge and a nice little push I needed to boost my confidence.
