As we have moved into February, I’m hoping to find homes for the last few Finding Light 2026 calendars 💛

This project was created as a reminder to slow down and notice the quiet, grounding moments found across Nova Scotia — and it also gives back.
$5 from every calendar supports The Keep in Ogilvie, a respite providing rest and recovery time for Essential Service Members living with PTSD.

If you’ve been considering one, or know someone who might appreciate a calm, meaningful gift, I’d love for you to share this post or reach out.

Thank you for supporting local, creative work with heart.

❄️ Mini Adventure #1 with our littlest explorer.

We made an impromptu stop at Baxter’s Harbour Waterfall today, fully embracing the hit-or-miss nature of winter adventures.

The tide was in, but the top half of the waterfall was frozen solid and visible right from the parking lot… which was seriously cool (pun intended).

A few helpful notes if you’re planning a visit:

🌊 At lower tides, enough beach rock is exposed to walk along for a closer look
❄️ In winter, the waterfall can freeze, making it worth the stop even without perfect conditions
🥶 And sometimes it’s so cold that the adventure becomes a quick photo-op and a fast retreat to the car

We didn’t head down to the beach today, not because we couldn’t, but because the cold was biting and we had our 8-week-old with us.

So we snapped photos, soaked in the moment as best we could, and raced back to warm up.

This is how our adventures start. Small, spontaneous, weather-dependent, and growing right alongside him 💙

🍂 Throwback to Wasson Bluff

We found this place completely by accident while wandering back roads near Parrsboro on my birthday weekend. A sign with a dinosaur made us turn around, and I’m so glad we did.

The trail down was steep, but rounding the corner at the bottom and seeing the Bay of Fundy at low tide was unforgettable. The ocean pulled way back, revealing a massive stretch of beach and an island in the distance. I didn’t walk far, but even standing there and taking it all in has stayed with me.

Some places don’t need miles walked to leave an impression.

🦕 Would you turn around for a dinosaur sign?

🍂 Throwback to the Eastern Shore beaches with Amanda
(on the way to our first overnight at Liscombe Lodge)

Highlight:

Surfers riding post-hurricane waves at Lawrencetown Beach, walking past storm debris at Martinique Beach with the gates closed, and the long trek at Clam Harbour — only to realize the kite surfers had the secret parking entrance all along (the main entrance) 🪁🌊

Reflection / Tip:

This was supposed to be a stop at the 50s village — but the hurricane changed everything.

No power. Debris. Last weekend of the season. No second chance.

So we followed the coast instead, on our way to Liscombe Lodge for the first overnight of the trip.

Tip: When plans fall apart, don’t rush to replace them. Let the route become the experience. Some of the best travel days are unplanned ones.

Question for you:

Have you ever had a plan fall apart and end up with a better day than expected?

And tell me — are you a “first entrance” parker or a “locals know the gate” explorer? 😅

☀️ Throwback to Kejimkujik National Park Seaside — Harbour Rocks Trail 🚶‍♀️

Highlight
Completing this 5 km coastal trail in the heat was a proud moment. With no shelter and the sun beating down, it challenged me more than I expected, but reaching the beach made it all worth it.

Reflection
Sitting on a rock near the protected nesting area for sandpipers and piping plovers, eating lunch and listening to the waves, felt like a true pause in time. The tall grasses and thick, stunted shrubs made the landscape feel wild and untouched — unlike anywhere else I’d explored so far.

Tip
Before visiting, check Parks Canada’s website for seasonal beach closures to protect nesting birds. Planning around this helps you enjoy the area while respecting the wildlife that depends on it.

Question for you
Do you prefer short, shaded trails or wide-open coastal walks, even when they’re tough?

Weekend wander 🚶‍♀️👶💛

Our furthest walk yet since moving here — with the baby and my sister — and somehow we ended up discovering a totally new pocket of town.

Quieter streets, “newer” houses (aka not century homes like most of Middleton… including ours 😅), and a stop at the railway museum for train photos 🚂

Proof that adventure doesn’t have to be big — sometimes it’s just taking a different turn and noticing what’s already around you ✨

💬 Have you explored a new corner of your town lately?

⚓ Throwback to Cape George Lighthouse!

The first stop of our Northumberland Shore trip, and already I felt the trip start in my mind. Standing high above St. George’s Bay, the view made everything else fade away — the wind, the winter chill, the everyday rush.

Bonus: another lighthouse checked off the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society list!

💡 Tip: Even a short pause early in a trip can help you mentally arrive. Take a moment to breathe, look around, and set the tone.

Have you ever had a spot that signals “the adventure begins” for you?
