Spent the morning working on a custom featuring a few of these green tourmalines, and I'm a little obsessed with these tiny leaves.

Each one is a natural crystal that has been hand carved—no two are exactly alike. I'm setting two of them into an adjustable sterling silver band, and watching them catch the light while I work doesn't get old.

Green tourmaline, also called verdelite, is connected to the heart chakra. It's all about strength, vitality, and emotional balance—perfect for someone who's rebuilding and learning to trust themselves again.

I'll be adding both pink and green versions of this design to the website Friday. But for now, I'm just enjoying the process.

I love seeing how people actually wear jewelry in their real lives. It's one of my favourite things about this work — a piece leaves my bench and goes out into the world and becomes part of someone's actual day, and I almost never get to see that.

Unpopular opinion incoming...

I think jewelry should be worn, not saved.

The "good" earrings that only come out for special occasions. The ring you're keeping nice. The necklace in the box waiting for the right moment.

I understand the impulse. I really do. But the right moment is a Tuesday morning when you're making coffee. The right moment is a regular day when something beautiful catches the light on your hand and reminds you why you chose it.

Jewelry was made to be worn by a living person — not kept perfect in a box.

Settle something for me...

When it comes to stacking rings, are you:

A) The more the better - pile them on, mix the metals, layer the textures, make it look like you've been collecting for years

or

B) Two or three, chosen carefully - each one meaning something, nothing added by accident

There's no wrong answer, that's the best thing about jewelry! I've made rings for both kinds of people and I love them equally.

Can I ask you something?

I've been thinking a lot lately about why people are drawn to handmade things.

Not just jewelry, but anything. A hand thrown mug. A woven blanket. A pair of earrings.

There's something about knowing that human hands made the thing you're holding. That it wasn't produced by a machine, that it couldn't be replicated exactly, that someone cared about it before you did.

I think about this often when I'm at my bench. The people who will eventually wear what I'm making right now. What they'll be doing when they put it on in the morning. Whether they'll still have it in ten years. Whether their kids or grandkids will wear it someday.

What draws you to handmade? I'm genuinely curious - I'd love to know your answer.
