The art of reuse: custom jewelry ♻️, DIY home 🔨, second-hand style 👗 People that know me well call me a "crow".

I pick up shiny, unusual, textured things and save them to craft with later. I have always been crafty, but I started making jewelry in grade school, first simply stringing beads onto elastic thread. I eventually taught myself peyote and other stitches, and raffled off some intricate pieces to raise money for charity at the age of 12. My creativity evolves continuously, and I love to learn new tec

hniques and work with different materials. I love wirework, beadwork, polymer clay, lampwork (glass bead making), and regularly try to incorporate found objects into mixed-media designs. I love to create and invent and combine. All of my pieces are handmade with care - I can't wait to share my creations with you!

My most recent repair - this lovely necklace with a jolly assortment of handmade lampwork glass beads!

Much of this whimsical piece had been strung on box chain, which is notorious for snapping. As I tried to repair it the first time, it kept breaking in even more places, even with a light touch!

I took it home from the Repair Cafe because I wanted to spend some time re-building it in a way that would last. It was, after all, the lady's favourite necklace!

I ended up replacing 2/3 of the chain, "hovering" the beads with crimps, and replaced two wire sections with a higher (thicker) gauge so they wouldn't snap in the future. Finally, I added a new clasp - the old one was bent out of shape, and unlikely to continue supporting the weight of these lovely beads.

At our last market of the holiday season, this lacy Helianthus Collar finally found its home! 🌻

These pieces, hand-stitched with beads only a couple of millimetres wide, take a LONG time to make (and even longer to sell! 😅). But, the feeling is so worth it when that special person comes along and knows it's meant for them!

I started my jewelry-making journey in Grade 8 by learning to make beadwork pieces like this for a school "personal development" project. Though I've branched out into (many, many) more media, I love coming back to these techniques and slowly, meditatively seeing something incredible take shape from such tiny components.

Today I got a little too excited & overconfident with a project 😅 (result in pic #2)....

I tried to teach myself a technique, and it was going pretty well, so I tried to take some video clips to edit together into a video of the process later. BUT, it was my first time trying riveting. I don't have a riveting hammer. Or a proper bench pin or block at my bench yet. And I was riveting drilled pieces of GLASS 👀😬

Sounds like a recipe for disaster... And it didn't end well.

Oh well, time to pivot! I can re-use all of the brass pieces, drill a new piece of brown glass, and re-make the pendant another day when it's not 11 at night 😅

Stay tuned! I'm excited for this concept, despite the setback 😊

How a carving in wax becomes a sterling signet ring! This is the first piece I have ever made using lost wax casting - I think I'm going to have to keep it for myself 😅
