Pottery for Peace

Pottery for Peace I do pottery, jewelry and a bunch of things the combination of the two. 20% of my sales is donated to Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan.

20% of all sales go directly to Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (www.cw4wafghan.ca). They are a registered charity that puts funds they raise into their projects in Afghanistan, including schools, a small orphanage, village and community libraries, projects to help local artisans and much more. The % that I keep goes to covering the costs of creation including clay, glaze, electricity for

my kiln, supplies, etsy fees etc. Many of the stamps used on my pottery are carved wooden block stamps that my husband brought home from Afghanistan in 2008. I hope you enjoy my shop and the pieces I create!

Got to be my daughter Jaedens first client at her new job at in Oak Bay. It's in a beautiful old house and reminds me of my shop. She's starting out fresh so if you're in the area and need a stylist give her a book!

These mugs are more than beautiful — they’re helping girls get back to school.

Each one is handcrafted by Cheryl Couture of Pottery for Peace on Vancouver Island, B.C., where creativity meets purpose.

Through her stunning pottery, Cheryl donates 20% of sales to Right to Learn Afghanistan, supporting scholarships, laptops, library access, and more for Afghan women and girls determined to reclaim their education.

Thank you, Cheryl, for transforming pottery into opportunity, and for making it her turn to learn.

I've been getting bad at sharing on here since my Insta account doesn't link to it anymore for reasons unknown but I got a letter from "Right to Learn" (formerly Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan) telling me that my lifetime donations have hit over $73,000 at this point which made me very proud! So while I was sharing that here's some mugs that came out of my last kiln. All my work is available at Bough and Antler in store or online.

I finally got a new tripod after breaking my last one so I thought I'd do a time lapse of me unloading today's glaze kiln. My kiln actually looks smaller I think I'm this video but she's a big girl. Most pottery goes through 2 firings, one at a lower temperature to harden the clay and in that firing you can have pieces touch and stack them up to a certain degree. The second firing is after the glaze has been put on and the pieces can't touch anything where the glaze is covering or they will fuse together (glaze is essentially a thin layer of glass, so think melted glass touching something.

Getting ready to go on holiday next month, so I've got a bunch of lanterns and exactly 98 mugs drying 😳

Slowly loading up a glaze kiln and as you can see there's some new ideas happening! This is the good side of it being the slowest sales time of the year, more time to try out ideas that have been simmering. Some will be crap but some might be lovely, either way I am enjoying experimenting with some boho colours and design.
