A diamond grading report is a document.

It tells you the carat weight, colour grade, clarity grade, cut grade, proportions.

All real information.

But it doesn’t tell you whether the diamond will sparkle when light hits it.

If it’ll show brightness and contrast when it’s moving.

If it’ll look flat and dull, or really alive.

Two diamonds with the same certificate gradings can look completely different.

One you can’t stop looking at.
One… just sits there.

The certificate can’t tell you which one you’re looking at.

Because the certificate isn’t designed to.

It describes the diamond.

You have to see the diamond to know how it looks.

And when she’s wearing it every day for the rest of her life… she’s looking at the diamond while the certificate’s in a drawer somewhere.

What she sees is the diamond.

Curious if the diamond you’re looking at is the right one? Let’s talk.

Every single ring is appraised for more than you paid.

Every one.

I know because I’ve been in this industry a long time, and I used to write them.

Most in store appraisals are the retail price with a markup.

Sometimes 1 1/2 x
Sometimes double

It’s printed on a company letterhead and handed to you as proof of value.

So you pay $8,600 for a ring
The appraisal says it’s valued at $10,750
And you feel like you got a deal

But you didn’t.

You got a formula.

An appraisal answers one question:

“What’s the appraiser’s opinion on how much it would cost to replace this ring?”

It doesn’t tell you if you paid a fair price or not.

And it doesn’t tell you what your ring is actually worth.

You see a diamond online and it looks really good.

Bright.
Sparkly.
Exactly what you’ve been looking for.

But when it arrives it looks off.

It’s not exactly wrong…
… but it’s not what you were expecting.

That’s because the video trained you to see it in one way.

Zoomed in with a spotlight on it.

In real life there isn’t a spotlight.

It’s smaller than you expected too.

And that sparkle it had? Now it comes and goes when it’s moving.

The video didn’t lie.

But it wasn’t showing you how that Diamond looks the other 95% of the time.

Scale is distorted online.
Sparkle is shown at its best.

And what you saw online vs what you’re holding in your hand isn’t obvious until it’s too late to do anything about it.

If you’re buying online and want a second pair of eyes first, DM me. We’ll make sure you get the right ring.

Getting a discount feels great, but it’s not always a win.

A lower number on a diamond that leaks light is still a diamond that leaks light.

A reduced price on a poor quality diamond is still a poor quality diamond.

The discount didn’t fix anything.

It just made the problem feel easier to say yes to.

This is such a common way people leave a jewellery store feeling good about a decision, then getting buyer’s remorse and regretting it later.

The focus shifts to what they saved on the diamond.

Not what they actually got.

A deal means you paid less than something’s worth.

Less than its “value.”

Not less than the first number you were shown.

So before you celebrate the discount, make sure the diamond behind it actually performs.

He had no idea what engagement ring to buy. I knew in two seconds.

~~~
He had zero idea what he was looking for.
And that’s usually when you get taken advantage of.
So I pulled up his girlfriend’s Pinterest board.
Two seconds.
That’s how long it took before I knew exactly what she wanted.
It wasn’t a guess.
It was a pattern.
Something I’ve seen enough times to recognize immediately.
Most people looking at that same board wouldn’t have noticed it.
We built the ring around what she actually wanted.
Not around what was easiest to sell him.
She calls it her dream ring.
That’s not luck.
That’s the difference between being sold to and being seen.
Curious what that looks like for you? Let’s talk.
The natural vs lab grown diamond debate is one of the most useless conversations in this industry.
And both sides are guilty.
“Natural diamonds are the only real diamonds…”
Defending tradition and resale value, but pretending it’s about quality.
“Lab grown diamonds are obviously smarter…”
Defending a purchase decision, but pretending it’s about ethics.
Neither argument is about your ring.
It’s about identity.
And identity arguments are absolutely terrible reasons for a purchase.
Here’s what actually matters.
đź’Ž What size looks right on her hand
đź’Ž What your budget realistically gets you in each option right now
đź’Ž Whether resale or upgrade potential matters to you long term
And the most important:
What you both actually value.
Rarity and natural origin?
Or size and visual impact for the money?
Those are real questions with real answers that are specific to your situation.
“Lab grown is fake”
“Natural is a scam”
Neither of those are real answers.
The people who feel the best about their decision aren’t the ones who won an argument on the internet.
They’re the ones who stopped listening to it.
Curious what the right choice actually looks like for your priorities? Let’s talk.
We just bought my husband a new car and it made me think…
Car dealerships and jewellery stores make money the same way.
Markups, add ons, financing.
The dealership pushes warranty, PPF, tint.
The jewellery store is a little more hidden about it.
15-150% markup on the diamond.
150-200% markup on the ring.
Warranty so you keep coming back for sizings, repairs, and cleanings.
And both make money when you finance.
Is it dishonest?
Not really.
It’s just business.
But if you think negotiating the diamond price is where you’re saving money, you’re missing the bigger picture.
The diamond is actually the most transparent part of the transaction.
Want to know where the actual room in the price is? Let’s talk.
Diamond myth #3.
Triple Excellent is the best you can get.
It’s not.
It just means the cut, polish, and symmetry were graded as excellent.
And that grading is just someone’s expert opinion.
It doesn’t mean the diamond performs the best.
Watch both of these move.
Same grade, but they look different.
One bright and lively.
The other one has too much contrast.
A grading report tells you what a diamond is, not how it looks.
Video first.
Report second.
Always.
Want to know if the diamond you’re going to buy actually performs the way it should? Let’s talk.
I told a guy not to buy a $25k diamond even though every spec was right.
2ct natural oval.
Near colourless.
Eye clean.
Every single spec checked out on paper.
But the diamond was leaking light.
Not dramatically.
It didn’t have a massive bow tie.
But it was enough that it did not look like a $25,000 diamond should.
So we sourced another one.
Pretty much the same on paper, but completely different in person.
Brighter.
Livelier.
Obviously better than the first one.
He bought the second one we sourced.
The certificate wasn’t the problem.
But it’s never the whole story.
~~~

Diamond certificates describe what a diamond is.

It’s grades.

They don’t tell you how it looks.

If you want a second set of eyes before you commit to a diamond you’re not sure of, DM me and we’ll book a call.

“We can work with your budget.”

Sounds reassuring.

It’s not.

It means the price wasn’t fixed to begin with.

Which means the amount you were shown wasn’t based on what the diamond or ring is actually worth.

It was based on what you looked like you’d spend.

And “working with your budget” usually means:

💵 They’re going to find a way to reframe what you’re looking at so it feels like you won.
💵 They’re going to adjust something you don’t see without making it feel like a downgrade.
💵 Or the margin is so big they have room to move, and they’re trying to close the sale.

None of these happen only when there’s a bad intention.

It’s just how flexible pricing works in sales environments.

The part that really gets to me is that it’s presented to you as a favour.

“We want to make this work for you.”

When really, it’s just telling you that the first number you got was never the real number.

And if the first number wasn’t real… what else isn’t?

Want to have a conversation without “flexible pricing”? Let’s talk.
