Do you ever find yourself feeling conflicted about social media and its global reach?
I certainly do! On one hand, I truly enjoy following inspiring people on their journeys. Getting a glimpse into their private and/or professional lives. Finding moments of connection, insight, or creative inspiration.
But on the other hand, that openness also paves the way for exploitation. In ways we know about, and almost certainly in ways we don't yet realize.
Take, for instance, the shameless copying of unique, slow-made designs (and sometimes even the original product photos) to sell them worldwide at rock-bottom prices on platforms like Temu...
It breaks my heart! For the creative entrepreneurs whose copyright protection often stops at geographical borders, leaving them powerless against such giants on the other side of the world.
But my heart also breaks for the adults and children forced to manufacture these and other products in often inhumane conditions for starvation wages, just to keep the wheels of that money game turning...
And ultimately, that’s what it always comes down to:
a handful of individuals driven solely by the desire to gain more power and wealth...
regardless of the consequences for their fellow human beings, and regardless of the impact on our planet.
