Had the honour of having this stunning girl pay me a visit today. From what I can see I believe she is a badge huntsman, although it is difficult to tell without seeing the underside of her abdomen, where the distinctive badge markings would be. I have also never seen a huntsman with such vibrant orange colouring. I thought I spotted a shed huntsman skin on my patio the other day, now I know it might have been hers!

From the looks of her I may soon have the privilege of sharing my patio with a couple hundred tiny pest control officers! My favourite part of the weather starting to warm up is seeing all our wildlife become more active 💕 🕷️ Thank you little huntsman for allowing me to take your picture, I will have to draw your portrait too very soon!

Here are the first three cards from this month's snail mail club, along with their corresponding photo I took at Blue Rock Lake earlier this year. I am doing this month a bit differently in that I am not including an ID with these drawings, I am have much less knowledge of mushrooms than I do with bugs. There are still a couple of spots left for this month so make sure you get in before 10 September!

It's nearly time for September's snail mail club! This month is inspired by a walk I took around Blue Rock Lake. I was looking for bugs for drawing references but couldn't help but notice the beautiful variety of fungi, with the result that I ended up with a lot of photos of them too.

This month the drawings are coloured pencil realism and each piece is directly inspired by a mushroom I saw on my walk. Spots open 10am 1 September!

WEBSITE REOPENED! My website has been offline for a bit while I was on holiday but we're back! Refreshed and ready for a big second half of 2026, starting with Cardcon AU this weekend. Bug lovers there are plenty of events for you too including 2025 Australian National Insect Expo in October so stay tuned!

August's snail mail club is inspired by a day I spent in Carlton Gardens last month, observing all the creatures and practicing drawing from life. I was particularly intrigued by a group of birds near the water, including many different species. Each little artwork is based on a sketch from the day.
Available from 1-10 August and limited to 15 spots, set those alarms!
