Monday Blues times! This week I have a very old and very much loved sapphire in need of serious tidying after many years of wear.

A bit of reshaping to make it less lopsided and help in removing the chips. Then refaceting the top and some pavilion facets before polishing it. Came out pretty nicely if I may say so myself 😁

Old, wonky and worn doesn’t have to stay that way. It can become the star of a new piece of jewellery for the next generation don’t you think?

Friday Rocks time! This week I have a little synthetic ruby or maybe spinel in meed of a good cleanup of the top facets.

Synthetic stones can have more sentimental than monetary value but that doesn’t mean they cannot be repaired or put in the “not worth it” basket. And, this one sparkles very nicely too don’t you think?

❤️

Monday Blues time! This week I have a sapphire that has had some tough love. The size had to be kept as it was going back into its original setting. While it is not perfect the top looks much brighter and the abraded sides will be hidden under the bezel setting.

What do you think of this repair? Would you keep the size or reduce it a bit to get a sapphire as good as new?

Friday Rocks. This week I have a pretty garnet that was a bit worn and needed some TLC.

I re-cut the table before polishing the whole top. It is now back to its original pretty self ready for a few more decades on its ring.

Tam- Carnelian are back in stock and these are most likely the last 3 pairs! I have only a few more of those carnelian beads but alas they do not match to make pairs so this is the end of the line.

If you've had your eye on a pair don't wait too long. I haven't been able to source another strand of this particular shape and size.

3 pairs are ready to post.

Monday Blues time. This poor little stone was a little out of shape with one shorter side making it very tricky for the jeweller to make something symmetric and beautiful.

I recut that side and adjusted the facets on that end to equalise the angles. While not perfect it is optically better from the top. When you can’t do a full recut to get everything straight with matching angles because it would lose too much size it is the compromise to go for optically ok.

Adding to the little bits the jeweller can do to also improve the optical symmetry make for a much better result. All in the experience of making handmade jewellery. ☺️

Friday Rocks, literally this week! 2 humble pebbles collected along the way around the country. A specific shape in mind for a very special purpose.

After selecting the 2 best ones for that shape and discussing size and proportions with my client I started working on the pebbles to shape them and bring them to the size he wanted.

One set of matching pebbles ready for him to take the next exciting step of designing the jewellery pieces for them.

While it is not always possible to work with any type of pebbles and results can vary wildly, these 2 came out pretty well!

And since no one ever ask us grown ups if we have any favourite pebbles… I am asking you now! And feel free to share a photo in the comments too 😁

For the crystal lover who likes to wear a simple crystal necklace.

This necklace is part of my Simplicity collection where I use only one bead or in this case one natural crystal bead and adjust the hole to fit a silk cord with a sterling silver clasp.

Each crystal is natural so the shape, inclusions and markings are unique to each individual bead and may differ slightly from the photos as I have made a number of them. I am getting to the end of my limited supply so right now I have 3 on the grey cord and only one on the creamy / light pink cord.

Ready to post, all parcels are sent with tracking, combine and save with Free Shipping on orders from $100
